The hotel, as the other reviews say, is firmly family run. We went last week in Oct when it was quiet but the weather still fine in the day and cool enough to have the log fire going in the evenings. The pool and garden are fantastic as is the view up to the mountains. The rooms are a bit basic but comfortable and clean. The food is very good. We had half board and ate very well. If you don't eat meat or fish you'd need to check out about options before you go. We went on the Discovery Collection culture and cooking tour with guided trips by Fethi the owner and cooking lessons from Mary his mother (who does the hotel cooking). It was a good programme. The area is quiet the nearest town Kyrenia is small and the place is best for those who want to relax and explore.

They tell youy that Cyprus is paradise when they welcome you at the airport, and if that is so, then the Lapida Hotelin Lapta, near Kyrenia, is a guest house in Paradise! Family run, family values and with a warmth of welcome rarely found these days, a holiday here is just wonderful.
The food is genuine local Turkish Cypriot, cooked by 'Mum' Mary [her soups are to die for] with much of the ingredients she uses, coming from the hotel garden. The whole ambience is one of relaxed warmth.
For this our second visit, we had a double aspect bedroom overlooking the garden and out to the sea and yet with superb close upviews of the mountain range - changing light and shade as the sun traversed the sky. It was a comfortable room with all that you needed to make a stay here pleasant.
The garden itself is a sheer delight with Lemon trees,Guavas, Pomegranates, Bananas unfurling their great buds to reveal yet another 'hand' of delicate yellow flowers, ready to turn into fruit.
If you just want to relax, then this is the place tocome to. If you want history, then Fethi - as an accredited Tour Guide is your man, and if you want a Turkish massage then Olga will oblige you.
We have been before and we will go again. Thank you to The discovery Collection for introducing us.

Room Tip: If yoiu can, askfor one of the two end rooms with a double aspect, but, there are only two!

My wife and I have only just found the Lapida Hotel after visiting Northern Cyprus many times over the years and are delighted that we did. This gem of a hotel is one you are reluctant to share as you want to keep it a secret to yourself. It is a true family concern as Fethis runs it; his mother Mesy does the catering (lovely Cypriot food at very reasonable prices) and Ismail is a cheerful and willing helper.
There are only about 15 rooms so the pool and lovely gardens never get overcrowded and in fact, eating breakfast in the gardens is one of the highlights of the day. The food is all sourced locally or from their own gardens and is tasty, fresh and very Cypriot.
The rooms are clean, well fitted out (flat screen TV, fridge, kettle, hair dryer etc). The shower pressure was very good (not always so in Northern Cyprus) although some may have difficulty with the smallish shower base my wife and I (mid 60's) had none.
To summarise, if you want a relaxing holiday and be treated to excellent Cypriot hospitality and all for a very reasonable price, it would be difficult to surpass the Lapida Hotel. We were reluctant to leave but we know we will be back soon

WE, Stayed 11 nights for a very reasonble amount & found the service (Ishmail mainly) was fine. Mary was loverly & Fethi was all thing to all men, they are all working hard to keep going & give a good service in difficult times. There were, of course a few niggles, but we had a great time, the pool & gardens were extremly nice, food was good, & in general the room were as you would want. This is a cheap family run hotel in a quiet location (other than the neighbourhood dogs). You get what you pay for & this is great value, not 5 star but relaxed & frendly, just what we needed & we had a great time. Have payed a lot more for a lot less!!! Give it a try!!

Room Tip: Get a room on the right hand side away from the dogs!!

We have just got back from the Lapida and agree with the previous reviewer’s comments. The hotel is essentially centred around the very affable Fethi and his mother Mary and this is where things start to go a bit wrong. They are trying to do it all themselves and, as a result, standards are not what they could be.

Firstly I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed our stay but what makes this nice hotel not an excellent one are the small niggles.

We arrived at the hotel around 17.30 (i.e. not stupid-o-clock) to an empty reception desk and had to go looking for someone able to check-in. We eventually found Ishmail who took us to our room. After have a quick look around we found there was no handle (and therefore no lock) on the sliding door to the small balcony and no plug for the sink in the bathroom. There was a kettle but no tea or coffee making stuff which is just as well as there were no cups either!! I immediately went and flagged the door issue up to Ishmail who also brought Olga along. All they could do was shrug their shoulders and explain that Fethi would deal with it on his return from taking out a tour party (he had said that he would pick us up from the airport but sent a taxi instead). Fethi eventually arrived and said he would deal with it, assuring us the area was very safe so there was no need for a locking balcony door!!? It took four days for the plug and lock to appear. We unpacked and took our shoes off and noticed our feet were filthy from the dirt on the tiled floor in a matter of minutes. I later flagged this up to Fethi and he assured us that the room had been cleaned, two pairs of disposable guest slippers appeared the next day. We subsequently spoke to a number of guests and they all had issues with cleaning and the irregular changing of bedding (some of those who stayed a week insisted that their bedding had not been changed at all during their stay). On one day our room wasn’t cleaned at all again Fethi wasn’t around to inform. When I did inform him that evening he was very sorry and had the room cleaned immediately. Some other guests also said there rooms had not been cleaned on occasions.
Apart from Fethi and Mary the hotel employs Ishmail, Olga and a cleaner (I use the term loosely) with a part-time gardener. That is not enough staff, poor Ishmail looks after the bar until the last person leaves often in the early hours, served dinner to those guest who were dining, cleaned the pool and ensured the pool area was cleared up each day, was on hand each morning at breakfast to clear away plates etc. Often bar drinks ran out because Fethi was too busy taking people out for tours, doing the airport run etc. or had just forgotten to restock which put poor Ishmail in embarrassing situations with guests.

Another example of the hotel not being staffed enough (or more to the point Fethi/Mary not delegating enough or communicating with what staff they have) is the Kleftico evening. A group of people came to dine and ordered Kleftico which resulted in staying guests going without, why was the staff (i.e. Ishmail) not informed that there was only a limited portions of Kleftico available and give first choice to those guests that were staying in the hotel?
On our last morning Fethi informed us that he would be taking us to the airport. I also noted that he was taking guests out on a tour that morning. Guess what when we were informed that the car was ready it was his uncle driving. We rendezvoused with Fethi on a road outside of Kyrenia for them to do a vehicle switch and allow Fethi to complete the journey to the airport (too many jobs and not enough time, Fethi!!)

The garden and pool are lovely and make for a very relaxing holiday which ultimately we had. BTW, we actually had a nose around the Almond Village and felt the Lapida pool was much nicer offering natural shade all around the garden and pool side under the lime trees and chairs and hammocks to chill out on.

The hotel is secluded which we liked although a 20 minute walk took you to a few restaurants if you cared to dine out as we did.

All in all, for the price you can’t beat it but even so standards should be better. I am still giving it a four rating because of the staff (Ishmail, really!!) and pool/gardens.

Yes, the Lapida is great - the setting of mountains and gardens fabulous and relaxing,
It's nearly in danger of over-extending itself, but Fethie is aware of this, and talking of hiring more staff/drivers as well as buildng on more bedrooms, but it would be a shame to lose the family charm , which happens among the guests as well as the staff (whose families seem to be large!). The cooking, well as a non-cook, I found it monotonous and not particularly tasty nor Turkish,,but I think it was all a bit much for Mary. Fethi's trips were excellent - he is a very good tour guide
I wish him well, and hope the coastal strip doesn't get too built up. Would I go again? Probably not.

Having just got back from the Lapida Hotel and read some of the recent reviews, I would agree with most of what has been said about this hotel.

Fethi is a very good host but from what I understand has maybe extended himself a little too much this year. As a result, some of the hotel side of things have waned in his absence and need to be concentrated on more than has been. The rooms are of a typical Turkish standard but were not cleaned as well as they could have been, fridge missing in our first room, tea/coffee not replaced on a daily basis etc. All of these things need to be addressed. However that said, the relaxing and friendly surroundings of the garden and the pool area compensated for some of the poorer attributes and Fethi himself is a gem of a guide in North Cyprus. He is passionate about his area and this shows when he guides you around the area.

I would like to give a special mention to Ishmail as well who is brilliant and sweet and the one member of staff who bumped the service up to a very good. Keep him Fethi as he is a little host in the making.

I hope Fethi was not insulted or upset by our advice regarding the hotel and where he needs to tighten up as we were trying to be constructive and improve everyone's experience for the future.

A rough diamond but a bit of polish and this diamond will sparkle brightly. Good luck Fethi and I am sure we will see you again in the future.

Room Tip: Venture out to eat too as the Silver Rocks is excellent and walking distance. Rooms 22 and 23 seem t...
