The villa is remote so a car is recommended, however there is a bus stop at the end of the lane.
Although the kitchen was fully equipped, no cleaning products were provided.
The villa was stunning with lots of space and very tastefully decorated.
It had a beautiful pool with plenty of sun loungers and a large outdoor kitchen and bbq area.
We had a warm welcome from the caretakers and the transfer company that were recommended to us were excellent and very helpful, and we used them frequently as a taxi service.
We would happily return as we had a fabulous holiday.
You need a car, or a 5 minute walk to the bus stop but the house is brilliant. Plenty of space for the family. Great pool and Jacuzzi and lots of outdoor space to run around. watch out for the extra electricity charges and ensure you leave everything clean and tidy, especially the BBQ and you will be fine. would use the place again if i visit Malta.
Please find below our feedback regarding the rental of the Tal Magna house and the unfortunate unhappy ending over what was overall a pleasant week.
I will start with the beginning, our arrival at the house. When Mary-Rose (house representative) arrived at the house, she showed us around, but the house was very hot inside and smelled humid, as it has not been lived in for quite a while or at least the windows have not been opened for quite some time. So the first 2-3 days, we left most windows and doors open to "air" the house and then it was better. In one of the bedrooms, there was no mosquito net and when we asked Mary-Rose about it, she mentioned that they never open that window (which is however the only window in that room).
When Mary-Rose showed us around the house, she also showed us the barbeque area. At that point, we mentioned that the barbeque grill was not clean and we asked for a steel brush to clean it. She mentioned that she did not have one, but would ask her husband. We did not hear back from her on this, and when we went to the supermarket, we bought aluminium boxes, as we didn't want to make a big fuss about it. We also noticed that the house itself was not very clean, e.g. there was dust on most shelves and some of the glasses and plates were dirty. Also this we didn't mention, as we did not want to make a big fuss (still holiday for us) and we put all glasses and plates in the dishwasher. Problem solved for us.
On the first morning, we were not able to find a coffee maker, which we found very strange for a fully equiped kitchen. We called Mary-Rose and she told us there is indeed no coffeemaker. As we didn't find that acceptable, we mailed to the rental office (Marcin). We were very happy to hear that a coffee maker would be provided, which we received on Tuesday (thank you very much for this).
Another point was the jacuzzi, which was very dirty upon arrival and after requesting twice, this was only cleaned on Monday.
The rest of the week went smoothly and we had a very pleasant stay in the house. As our flight on Saturday was only at 5 pm, we mailed to Marcin to ask if a later check-out would be possible. He confirmed that we could stay until 2 pm without extra charges and we were extremely grateful for that!
We were packing up our last things when Mary-Rose arrived at 1.30 pm. She went through the house with one of us and started to complain that the barbeque grill was not clean and that she would charge 50€ for this. We did not agree, as we mentioned that we left it like we found it, and that because we thought it was dirty in the first place, we bought aluminium boxes (which we showed her) and used these. She sticked to her point and she started to raise her voice (saying it is every time the same, clearly having some frustrations) and she started shouting. As we felt that we were treated unfair, we mentioned the other points about the house not being clean, etc (as mentioned above). This made Mary-Rose very mad and there was shouting back and forward. She was not behaving professional in any way and completely lost her temper. She even threatened to call the police if we would not leave the house ('right now, out!') and she then called her husband (who after his arrival, also started shouting at us). We were not ready to leave the house without the deposit. They also charged us 60€ for the electricity, which we found a steep extra charge for only 1 week.
We believe we have paid quite a lot of money for the house and we left everything in a tidy way (everything was put back in its original place, towels were left on a stack, so they could easily be picked up for washing etc). We have rented many holiday houses before, but have never experienced such thing. This was not the end of the holiday as we would have imagined.
After filing a complaint and mailing back and forward with the rental office and the owner, we finally recieved a refund of 50€ after 2 months.
Hope this review is helpful for someone
10 of us stayed at Tal - Magna including 6 adults, 3 children and 1 infant. The farm house itself was stunning and well equipped providing plenty of space for all of us to stay comfortably. The kitchen was a good size with all the amenities we needed (dishwasher, oven, large hob and fridge/freezer) the rest of the property boasted 3 outdoor and 2 indoor dining areas as well as a lounge, parlor, 5 bedrooms (all with air-con) and numerous indoor and outdoor toilets/bathrooms. On top of this a large pool, bbq area with outdoor fridge, hot tub, washing machine, WiFi and sun flower garden were also available. We opted for collection from the airport and drop off which all went smoothly and our driver even made a stop so we could buy pastizzi en route.
The farmhouse is situated down a quiet road on top of a large hill with views of Golden Bay, farmland and the local town of Mgarr. Mgarr, a 20 minute walk, was large enough for the basics - small supermarkets, restaurants and small bars. Other than this 2 bus services run twice an hour which will take you all the way to Valletta in 50 minutes passing through Mosta and other larger towns. The bus stop was a 5 minute walk from the farm house. This service ran up until 23:45 and the price was 2 euros (adult) for a single journey which is valid for 2 hours if you need to swap buses any where. In the other direction the bus would take you down to the beaches. Although we had rented a car and never took the bus to the beach I would guess this would take 10 - 15 minutes maximum. Renting a car meant that we could see more of the island however the bus routes are very good and the services are frequent.
We would recommend this property to any large group visiting Malta as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and holiday. We would recommend reading the booking conditions thoroughly as there were some terms that were not made entirely clear. Firstly the electricity consumption is limited to 350 units anything over this is charged at 30cents a unit. We stayed for 8 days, used aircon in all bedrooms every night and also used the television, dishwasher, WiFi and charged all our devices nightly after our 8 days we had an extra bill of 40 euros only.
As well as this a cash deposit of 500 euros must be made on arrival as the farm house contains a large collection of decorations, artifacts and expensive furnishings. When checking out a walk around was conducted and our entire deposit was returned.
All in all an amazing holiday, great location, friendly helpful people and brilliant memories.

I booked this farmhouse for 10 of us visiting Malta for a wedding after it looked beautiful on all the websites I looked at. There were 9 of us here for most of the week. The house itself is nice, very spacious. The kitchen is large and there are multiple sitting areas. The outside area is nice, the pool is a decent size, we easily had 6 or 7 of us playing with a ball in there. The bbq area is fully equipped and overlooks the pool. The jacuzzi would be better placed on the pool side of the house.
In terms of location, you will need to drive everywhere, although nowhere is very far. I would strongly recommend hiring cars - there is sufficient parking for at least 3.
On arrival it was a little musty, as though the place had been shut up all year and there was a mild smell of damp in some of the rooms.
Also on arrival we learned that electricity usage was limited to 50 units per day. This is in the booking form but took close inspection and isn't immediately apparent. Could be made clearer. Between the 9 of us we used 300 for the week (of our 350 unit allowance) but we only stayed in for two evenings. With charging phones and cameras, if you stay in during the evenings I can see how you would easily use the allowance, especially if there was 11 people here. It just meant you were very conscious about electricity usage - not something I particularly want to worry about on holiday - and also meant none of us put the air con on, despite it being 25ish degrees overnight.
The jacuzzi wasn't clean when we arrived on the Friday and still wasn't on Monday morning - but to be fair after one phone call it was cleaned. Unfortunately, the power on the jacuzzi kept tripping and on the last night we could not get it to work at all.
The barbeque was much more thoroughly examined for cleanliness on our departure than it was shown to us in - would advise people staying here to take photos before and after.
There are also a number of items left in the house of value, some of which are described as 'irreplaceable' in the book, many are more than 500 euros in value. The cash deposit does not cover the majority of items and so there is a list of replacement costs - either ask for a deposit to cover the items, or don't have items there worth more than the deposit. It seems strange that these are left here.
Organisation of key collection is easy, key return less so as it was assumed we'd be leaving at 10am, so when we were ready to go at 9am we had to waste time waiting for the person to arrive to do an inspection to get the deposit back. It felt like a Univeristy room inspection - not really how I wanted to end my holiday.
All in all, we enjoyed our week here and it was a great base for a large group. The house is lovely and location is good for both Malta and Gozo (ferry is only 20mins away). A couple of things could be made clearer / organised better based on previous experience with holiday rentals to make it better.
