We stayed this last weekend at The Red Lion to visit Cambridge and attend a family wedding. Very hospitable and professional staff. We were made to feel so welcome. Our room was excellent with all facilities needed for our stay. Nice idea having the rooms away from the main building. Our meal on Friday evening was designed around the 'Pudding Club'. Great fun. My Asparagus followed by the belly pork was superb and in just the right quantity. The six puddings exemplified the ability of the chef. All wonderful suttle flavours. Our full marks were for the stem ginger jelly and the spotted dick from his gran's recipe. Very well done. A special mention for the breakfast waitress - a good sense of humour first thing in the morning!
P.S - the 'Wherry' bitter is to be recommended

Pretty place in an exquisite village, but if you're not up and cracking early in the morning, you can forget about the included breakfast (though a kind lady make us tea and toast).
The shower soaked the bathroom floor and there were only towels for one. Disappointing after the initial look of it. The ultra modern, all-stark-white room wasn't exactly warm and cosy.

I am a little confused by this review - being from a TripAdvisor member since 29 January 2010 for a visit here in May 2009? However, to address the particular concerns raised:

Breakfast times are 7:30-8:30 weekdays and 8:30-9:30 weekends. We are very happy to cater for alternative requirements by arrangement. It sounds as though this was not well communicated in this instance.

Our baths and showers are indeed "ultra modern" and AA 4 star standard - there should not be a problem here.

Our Farrow & Ball "Joa's White" walls did look a little "all-stark-white" before our pictures went up.

We welcome feedback. All guests are provided with comments cards which we strongly encourage to be completed as it is the most important way to continue to improve.

The Red Lion is a pub in the small village of Hinxton, close to the Genome Sequencing campus and about 20 minutes drive from Cambridge. The owners have built a modern hotel behind the pub, detached and quiet, priced very reasonably for lodging in the area. Since it is all on one level, it is easily accessible, and there is free parking in the pub/restaurant lot adjacent to the rooms. Check-in and checkout was difficult, allow time for the restaurant staff to meet with you and check the bill carefully (I got several mis-charges, which were graciously corrected).

The rooms are small, but clean and modern, a studio room with double bed and television, in-room coffee and wired internet (cable available from the bar). The radiators are on timers that can be overridden, the staff was helpful in getting things going. The bathroom was clean and there was adequate hot water with good pressure.

The pub serves dinner in the restaurant with regional foods and wines, well prepared; pub food is also available as a lighter choice. There is a full cooked breakfast included in the room rate, and the staff was generally attentive and helpful.

Warm, inviting, fabulous food and nothing was too much trouble. These three young ladies were thoroughly spoilt and loved every minute of it.

I stayed here this weekend while attending a wedding locally, the rooms are brand new and spotless. The new garden just been laid looks beautifull and the egg benedict for breakfast was perfect. ii will be back for a weekend away and make full use of the location.
