When you visit Al Areesh you need to recalibrate your expectations a little as it is basic and lacks a lot of facilities you may be used to. But, it is in the desert and for what you pay you get a fantastic experience. It's easy to get to and doesn't require a lot of off-road driving, just a short drive off the tarmac road to the camp. The cabins don't have air-con or fans so get very hot at this time of year (and I mean very hot !). However, you do have the option of sleeping outside as a bed frame is provided and they are happy for you to move your bedding from cabin to the outside bed-frame. The evening meal when we visited was fine and there was plenty of it - the breakfast was not so good and was disappointing.
It's well worth going out on the dune driving trip with Abdullah - a very skilful driver who knows how to throw a 4X4 around the big dunes. The camel ride in the morning is also a nice experience and quite funny to see the little lads who lead the camels giving them a hard time when they don't go where they're supposed to.
Somebody else has already mentioned going with the flow - and that's a good way of describing time at Al Areesh - do that and you'll have a great visit.
