“By the Waterfront”
Reviewed July 23, 2011

We actually stayed at the Waterfront during the monsoons of 2009 . Bagged a monsoon offer and that actually prompted us to stay there. Besides , Ekant, which was our first choice was completely booked and ITC, though much swankier was a little expensive. The waterfront offers uninterrupted views of the rivulet and even partial views of the dam and the ITC on the other side. Theres a lot of construction activity in the vicinity which can get onto you at times. The rooms at the hotel are pretty good. They were quite clean and come with a kitchenette. Downstairs one can dine at the American Diner. That was the only restaurant operational at that time. We also drove by to Ekant where the food was mediocre but the view was just breathtaking. One can also dine at the Fortune which is close by. The staff at the Waterfront were very courteous and helpful and would always go out of their way to make our stay pleasant.

We visited Lavasa on a June weekend and decided to stay in Waterfrontshaw. Got the bookings from waterfrontshaw's website, the booking was easy: the booking page displayed a "weekend package" of 6000 per day for a 1 bhk min 1 night stay. So booked for 2 nights.

Route from Pune to Lavasa is very scenic, the roads are decent, and the only roadblocks are the small villages around Pirangut area. The road leading to Lavasa after the Pirangut junction is excellent. You would not miss the sign boards to Lavasa: there are plenty

Lavasa security would just ask you for your details at the main gate. Once inside, the main Lavasa "town" is about 7 kms. The approach is through Dasve ghat, which is dotted with numerous waterfalls in the Monsoon time.

Waterfrontshaw (WFS) is a serviced apartment, which is very prominently located in the only developed place of Lavasa. The only street in Lavasa, which houses all restaurants and shops are attached to waterfrontshaw . ITC Fortune lies at one end of the street, and Mercure is a bit far (about 1 km) away from Waterfrontshaw.

Checkin at WFS was smooth. We had arrived at 10 am instead of the regular checkin time of 12 noon. The 1bhk room was very appealing: The drawing room was spacious, the kitchen was about the size of any regular bedroom in Pune, and the bathroom was grand. They have maintained a colour scheme of blue in the apartment. The balconies are too small, could just barely fit a chair. All rooms seem to be lake facing on one side and parking facing on the other. There is enough car parking for about 30 cars. You may need to be a bit lucky or early to get the parking right in front of the reception.

The 1 bhk is equiped with LCD TV, a small fridge, induction heater, cutlery, however no vessels where provided for cooking. There is electronic safe and weighing scale in the bedroom. All rooms including the kitchen are provided with A/C. Bathroom slippers mentioned the brochure was not available. Mosquito repellent mats/coils are not provided, so be ready to carry odomos or good-night mats.

The best part of the weekend package was the food. We took "fixed menu" for the first and Rs 1000 per person per day coupon for the 2nd day. The fixed menu was good for the indian resturant Chor biazrre. The fixed menu means that we have limted items, but unlimited orders. So if you are real hungry, you could go a multiple chicken menus. Tandoors and starters as well as sea food were not included in our fixed menu. However, we went in for chicken dishes and it was excellent. The food preparation was very good, the waiters were also attentive. We also had food at Octopus, Asian restaurant. Apart from the quality of food, the restaurants were well furnished and well maintained. Breakfast at the all American Dinner, was good. Don't worry, there was idilli sambar as well as breakfast. Did not get a chance to see the other restaurants like the English Pub and the takeaway counters. In the RS 1000 per person, we would get coupons, that we can redeem for food and soft beverages.

Overall, Waterfrontshaw apartments and the restaurants attached to the same company were excellent. They can improve a bit more on the services and response to requests. We had requested for a mosquito repellent, and it took them about an hour to get back to let us know that they did not have any. If you know swimming, you could use the Dasvino swimming pool free of cost.

Lavasa is an ideal weekend getaway for a quiet and relaxing stay. Don't expect the "Xthrill" and "Watersports" to be grand. At least in monsoons, they just have the Jet-ski, which is an expensive ride for Rs 500. The ride takes a single round of the artificial lake of Lavasa. All the rides - paddle boats, rides are closed for monsoon.

We enjoyed the walk on the streets - from Waterfrontshaw to the childrens park. About 1.5km. We also went around Lavasa in our car. However, much of the road on the hills has got wiped out due to rains and is a no no if you dont have an SUV! The views from the hills is amazing. You can just unwind and relax for hours. The artifical lake, however, was a muddy scene. All the water from the hills would accumulate the dirt and dust from the stalled construction work, and dump all of that into the lavasa lake.

If you are in Pune and have a bike or car, you should visit Lavasa. And stay for a night: the place, alhough not developed, is great at night. Don't expect to have great thrill in water-sports and rock climbing. and don't come in with office friends:- this is a place for a romantic time!

Was on a short trip to lavasa and stayed in WaterFront Shaw (1BHK), the rooms are cosy and elegant. Good inroom TV channels, nice kitchen, well equipped bath (no bath tub... I was expecting one for my son to enjoy)

The food the all the 3 restaurants(American Diner, Chor Bizzare and Oriental Octopus(this one does not serve alcohol yet) that was part of the package was fantastic. The morning breakfast was quite disappointing, very limited choice with no non-veg options except eggs.

Over all good experience, but suggest do not go with too young kids in rainy seasons, they will get bored in the room.

Few suggestion to the service apt.
1) PLEASE IMPROVE YOUR ROOM SERVICE/HOUSEKEEPING... for most of the things I had to remind atleast twice. Also improve your staff to be competent.
2) Have some indoor activities... if its raining cats and dogs this shall keep the guest occupied
3) Keep a information table seprate for guest to konw more about things to do in Lavasa, clearly your staff did not have any clue about what services (boating, traing etc) is working or not. They told us in rainy season boating stops and even the train does not work... voila on the day of checkout not only did we see the train plying but also on our way back dropped by the water sports place and did cruise boating.

Room Tip: Take lakeview room

Cluttered owing to a lot of activity of construction around. The room quality is good and as the place is new the overall hotel internally is good however the roads etc around were having a huge amount of construction activity. The restaurant - the fast food one was ok but the service was very slow. Overall an ok sort experience.

We went as a group of 5, all family - mainly to check out what all the hype about Lavasa was about. The Shaw was a nice friendly experience - with welcoming staff and satisfied my topmost criteria of odorless clean beds. We took up two rooms on the third floor, with a view of the lake and hills. All good, except for a little problem on the first night - the water supply ran out. I'm not the kind to create a big fuss about it, but this little issue still lingers in my memory of the stay. No reason to not go again though!
