We spent 2 nights at Riverwood Downs using a discount voucher. We stayed in the lodge, the motel style rooms attached to the main house. The rooms were clean and well equipped, though we found them a little dark. There was a comfy queen bed and a bunk which would be great for kids. Overall, nice and comfortable. Food was a bit hit and miss with some meals quite nice (breakfast is included and quite good for an inclusive breakfast) and some not so good (my husband had a vey chewy steak one night). If you are staying in the lodge, you pretty much have no other choice than to eat at the restaurant, which is very limiting and a bit pricey for what you get. Service was very slow and a little random (eg. a waitress asked my husband if he wanted a steak knife for his steak after watching him struggle, but then never actualy came back with the knife). Overall, the food was better than expected. Expect to wait around to get served - but it's all part of the country experience I guess.

In terms of activities, there isn't really much to do here. We hired a canoe for an hour, but there is only a short stretch of river and then you have to turn back because of rapids. It wasn't warm enough for us to swim, but others seemed to be enjoying the pool & river (especially the kids). There is horseriding nearby. Apart from that, we took some walks through the property and lounged around. It would be a stretch trying to keep yourself occupied for more than a couple of days here (especially for adults).

Overall though, we had a pleasent experience at Riverwood Downs and would probably return, perhaps renting one of the cabins next time or even camping.

Room Tip: If staying in the lodge, ask for one of the end rooms.

*Beautiful location with abundant wildlife. Very relaxing.

*Loved that it was pet friendly

*Friendly and cheerful staff

*Dinners were full of flavour and good. A solid bistro type of meal, more on the high end of pricing.
Breakfast was not bad but portions could be bigger.

*Definitely recommend bringing some of your own food.

*Lots of activities for the young and old. Tyre tubes down the rapids were fun but you’re restricted with the canoeing (only upstream for a short stretch). Good pool tables and indoor tennis. Swimming pool only for resort guests and not campers. Horse riding is at a walk the entire ride so not much fun for more experienced riders.

$18.00 per hour per canoe ------ $58.00 1.5hr horse ride ------ $5 per hr per tyre tube--- Main Meal $26-$28

*Most certainly NOT 4 and 4 ½ star place! The website is really well done and gives you the impression of a rather luxury stay. We camp a lot but thought on this occasion we would treat ourselves to the spa cabin. $250 a night got us a toilet and spa in the same room as the bed, a cramped cabin with poor kitchen facilities, uncomfortable bed, terribly shabby linen (coloured towels, for anyone who has worked in the industry, a sign of low standards) and out-dated decor. It appears as though no money is being reinvested in the accommodation. Expect a typical 3 star country motel standard. Very disappointed. We stayed in cabins like this on the lake in Jindabyne for $66 per night.

*Fantastic place for camping but overpriced for anything else.

This was our second visit to Riverwood Downs, having camped there many years ago. We loved our last visit, and decided to stay in a spa cabin this time.

The cabin was OK - pretty clean and ideally located. We didn't like the shower in the same room as the bed, as every time we had a shower the whole bedroom would steam up and condensation would settle on everything, despite the exhaust fan running.

The staff we met were great, providing friendly, efficient service. The food was really nice and we enjoyed our experience.

This is not a high end resort, but more middle of the road in a superb location.

We would visit there again, but next time, I think we will take the tent!

Based on reviews and ratings of the place, we were expecting a great experience. Got there and were supremely disappointed. The room was only slightly better than a motel room, and the food was barely mediocre. And to top it off there's a charge of $15 for servicing the room.

We had the place booked for 2 nights and left after one. It's a glorified camping ground. If that's all you're looking for it's fine. But other than that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

We stayed here for a couple of nights in one of the spa rooms. Although it is a really lovely place - very relaxing and quite comfortable, our stay was let down by some frustrating service. The reception staff are fantastic and very helpful, as were the dinner staff in the restaurant, but the staff that were there in the morning for breakfast were so bad that all the positive experiences were soon forgotten.

We stayed obviously during a very quiet period as there was absolutely no one around. When we came down to breakfast in the morning we were the only ones there and sat waiting for 20mins for someone to come into the restaurant to serve us. We ended up having to go to reception and have her call the kitchen staff to attend to us. When we did get served the waiter was rude and irritable.

I would still suggest travelers consider this place as it does have a lot to offer for a good price. Definitely have dinner in the restaurant, the food is very very nice.

We were all looking forward to this get away, and when we finally arrived it was really worth the 3 hour drive in the Easter/ Long weekend traffic.

Riverwood Downs is a great place to stay for campers, cabiners or resorters. They have it all covered. We stayed in a resort room which was very nice (2 adults 1 child and 1 small dog) for 5 days and we did not feel cramped. It is pet friendly so your pets are truly welcome everywhere, even in the dog friendly restaurant. This is separate from the main restaurant for those who don’t wish to dine with furry friends.

For those who don’t own a furry friend you will still enjoy Riverwood Downs and the rooms do not smell of dog at all. They are clean and fresh and not a trace of dog smells what so ever.

The horse riding was nice, but if you are an experienced rider like me, it is more horse walking than anything else as they don’t have insurance for anything more than a slow walking trail ride.

The restaurant food was very good but the service is a little slow. You don’t have anywhere else to go, so you don’t really care about the time it takes.

The river walks and the surrounding towns are lovely but don’t expect party towns. They are quiet and sleepy country towns which are so lovely to escape too.

We had a really great time at Riverwood Downs and I will be recommending it to everyone, especially those who like to take their dogs with them.

A few tips, take lots of bottled water, it is nicer to drink than the Reservoir water. There is a small fridge so if you want to do BBQ's you can take your own food even if you stay in the resort rooms which dont have a kitchen.

Enjoy.....

Room Tip: Take your own water and snacks its just easier

We were there for a wedding. The wedding staff were excellent and so was the food for the wedding.

However, the food in the restaurant was overpriced and of mediocre quality. Some of the staff were great, but others lacked customer service. At times, I felt like I was in a Faulty Towers episode.

We stayed in one of the spa rooms and felt it was overpriced. I've never stayed in a guest room anywhere where the bathtub AND toilet were in the same room as the bed. Not very private - or romantic!

Horseriding was fun. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but a few of their horses were on the unruly side. If you have kids, be careful.

This place is having an identity crisis. Is it a high end resort (like the prices would suggest) or a campground with cafeteria quality food and customer service?
