My husband and I had been to Kota Tinggi Waterfall Resort many many times. Sometimes we stay overnight, sometimes we just went there for a soak. But we have not been to this place for nearly a year because we had better choices nearby such as, Felda Residence at Tanjung Leman. But this time, because of the long interval, we sort of miss the place a bit and decided to come back for a night's stay.

We had seen some changes in the resort. Firstly is the management. I think they have change a new managment, it is now under OWG, instead of WET WET world, if I am not wrong. The receptionist is courteous, but still not very good in understanding English. They have the manual machine for credit card payment but they insist of collecting cash, so we have not choice but to travel back to the city and change money. And this time, they requested for another $100 deposit which they never did before(think is the rule by new management). So total we had to pay them $250 in cash. Since occupancy rate is not high and rooms are available, we checked in immediately. That was about 10am plus. We had a good rest and then go to soak at the waterfall, for a free fish Spa(many fishes biting the dead skin of our legs). After that we travelled to Kota Tinggi Town centre for our lunch as none is provided in the resort.

We booked the hotel instead of chalet. Hotel rate is $130 at weekday and $150 at weekend. We used to booked chalet but we found not much different in size. The rate for the chalet is $150 at weekday and $180 at weekend(Malaysian Ringgit). And if you are not staying in the resort, then you have to pay entrance fees(Car plus no. of people). If you are staying, then no need to paying entrance fees.

This time we found that there is difference between chalets and hotel rooms. Firstly, no chairs provided at the balcony of hotel room, but there are chairs at the balcony of chalets. No TV is provided too in hotel rooms. But I do not know if there is one in the chalet or not. Anyway, not much difference as the reception and channels are not good. No Kettle for boiling water. But the bed is king Size and quite comfortable compared to some other hotels we had stayed. Bathroom is very basic. Aircon and fridge are working well.

One thing we enjoyed very much is the waterfall. It is a way to temporarily forget about our busy work at home and really relaxed when soaking in the water and at the same time looking into the sky and nice clouds. It is so cooling and the fishes in the water are giving us free fish spa. They came biting the dead skin of our feet. Remember, this is free where other places you need to pay about $20!!! Only thing I hated about is the guard there kept on smoking and polluting the place. It is supposed to be clean and free of smoking. It is spoiling the beauty of nature!!!

Back to our hotel room, at night we had an enjoyable dinner, which is BBQ. You can booked from them the BBQ kit for $50(without charcoal) or $80 (with charcoal) and food is not provided. But we bought a small BBQ kit plus charcoal at the town centre at about $35 and some raw food for BBQ at ard $25(prawns, squids, corn, califlowers, Otahs) Total cost us not more than $80 with food. Therefore if you're driving, go to the town centre KIP Mart first to buy all these things inclusive of foodstuff and get yourselves a sumptuous BBQ dinner.

As for the breakfast we had the next morning, it is still the same as one year ago. This time thy changed the location to the cafe next to the reception area where less flies compared to the canteen downstairs. The food includes Fried rice, fried kuay teow, and Nasi Lemak(coconut rice), chilli, hard boiled eggs, cucumber, peanuts, sausage, coffee, tea, fruit juice, honey dew, bread and butter. That's all!!! But for that kind of price, don't expect they will provide buffet breakfast like other hotels(but at Felda Residence at Tanjung Leman, you can get better breakfast with about the same rate). Just basic. This time the taste improved.

fter breakfast we rest a while in the hotel room and then went to the waterfall to soak again. This time we soak in the lower part of the pool and it's again very fun. But we did not swim in the swimming pool of the resort as it looks dirty.

In conclusion, if you are finding a place just to relax, to enjoy the nature and to be freed from TV, Phone, Computer, then this is a place you can consider, with that kind of rate, how much more you can expect??! Just relax more at the waterfall, you will get back the cost you paid.

Room Tip: Get everythings ready from the town centre such as BBQ kits and food, prepare enough cash as if you need some, no ATM machines there, buy yourselves bottled water or your own kettle because no kettle for boiling water if you stay in hotel rooms. Buy some tibits to prepare for eating when you feel boring. Bring some books to read or if you can, bring your own portable DVD players to watch movies. Cooking should be ok as I smelt frangrance of some indian food from some of our hotel neighbours.

On that stormy evening, a tree had already fallen across the road. We didn't want to die if another lightning struck the trees, all precariously bent over the only way out of Kota Tinggi, so we stayed at Kota Tinggi Waterfalls Resort.

For RM150, stay in a chalet with all the makings of a horror movie:
- smashed lights
- TV with antenna held together with masking tape
- dusty, holey blankets with someone else's hair on them
- squeaky fan
- air conditioner that coughs out hot air
- broken toilet flush
- soggy toilet paper

Because the storm wouldn't let up whilst we were there, we had dinner at the resort. It really only had Ramli burgers on the menu and Milo, which luckily beats McDonalds and Burger King any day, so we didn't mind. Buffet breakfast the next morning was another story though -- flies were on everything!

The Kota Tinggi Waterfalls Resort actually has the potential to be a fantastic retreat as it is located right next to the waterfalls. Sadly, it is abysmally managed. They've also turned the natural beauty into a grotesque water park, complete with water slides and tubes for rent. All the staff working there had dazed, surreal expressions.

If you really want to stay in Kota Tinggi, try the Kota Rain Forest Resort instead, which was unfortunately fully booked when we were there.

We were aware that there had been very little maintenance over the years, and looked at the room first.

There were no nasty smells of rot, and poor toilets as previously, so we elected to stay.

It quickly unravelled from there.

The chef could not be found at 3 in the afternoon, when the restaurant was supposedly open, and the restaurant was not expected to operate until 6 in the evening, The chef could not be found anywhere. The manager eventually tracked down someone, who said he was unable to cook a mee goreng. There was no possibility of food for the vegetarians and vegans amongst us.

There used to be some food gerai in the resort, which bailed out the poor catering of the resort, however these have all disappeared.

The swimming pool was green and slimy, there was no overflow or filtering of the mucus from the surface, and the drain covers were broken or missing. Despite the far from sanitary conditions, some guests were in the pool.

The waterfall swimming part was dirty, with plastic bits and cigarette butts everywhere.

There were at least a dozen uniformed staff lazing around - why weren't they cleaning the place?

Back to the room, the beds looked OK, however the sink in the toilet was blocked, the shower cubicle was missing on one side, the doors to the toilet had warped, and could not be closed, all the hinges on cupboards had collapsed, the mismatched doors giving an untidy look to the rooms. It all looked in desperate need of refurbishment.

We decided there was no point in staying there, and asked to change to day use rate, however we were refused a refund on the night stay rate of MYR450. A high price for less than 3 hours stay.

All in all, far too pricey for such bad accomodation, and I would say that nobody would really want to stay there, however low a rate might be offered. Terrible!

We checked into the Kota Tinggi Waterfalls Resort during one of our recent weekend retreats. Located within walking distance from the Kota Tinggi Waterfalls, the resort is about 25 minutes drive from the town centre. Check-in was fast and the staffs at the reception were attentive and friendly. We booked the standard chalet rooms that do not come with a television. This was ok since we spent most of our time outdoors. Our chalet commanded a nice view of the surrounding greenery and it was certainly relaxing to be nestled within nature during our weekend stay.

The room itself wasn’t too impressive and had certainly seen better days. There was some dirt on the bedroom floor and part of the bathroom door had already rotted away. This was disturbing that needed some time to get used to. The bed itself was comfortable and seemed clean enough. The air-con was cool enough to give comfort from the outdoor temperatures. We didn’t try the complimentary breakfast.

All in all, the Kota Tinggi Waterfalls Resort provided basic accommodation at reasonable prices. I would recommend to fellow travelers who would like to be close to the waterfalls and nature as this is the only resort within walking distance to the falls. If you are expecting very clean and modern 5 star facilities, you are better off looking for other alternatives in town.
