“Family Vacation!”
Reviewed July 31, 2014

This was our first family vacation together as finally all the kids are old enough at the same time...Our girls are 13,10,4 we had a basic room 2 double beds with Gulf view...The place is very nice but the room is very plain not special or fancy bathroom shower is so small....But we picked this place for the location which is amazing....Great pool and the ocean is just right there...That made it the best for the money...Even tho I believe it is over priced $330 a night plus tax and $509.00 plus tax on the weekends....Very high but you are paying for the ability to be right on the ocean....Housekeeping was bad.....Our 2nd day we were gone all day came back to a NOT cleaned room and they came by and asked if we needed anything? Yes my room to be cleaned before I get back from all day in the sand we were wet and sandy so I said just towels.....We were tired and I didnt want to wait for them to clean it...Should have been done long before then...Then the 3rd day they only left 2 big towels for 5 people? I called to get more towels hours passed with no towels the front desk called to see if we got them and I said NO...so about 20mins later they showed up it was 9pm now....So housekeeping wasnt good at all! The restaurant was very over priced nothing was under $10 and that was for a burger yes kids eat free so that would save you money if you didnt have to pay $30 to $50 everytime you eat.....The buffet for breakfast was $14.00 a person come on!We didnt eat there because of the high prices and no one was ever in there not sure why no one was eating there! The Holiday Inn Express atleast gives you a free breakfast and at the price you should get something!!We did have a great time and would go back but doesnt change the fact its very pricey......Not to forget 2 of your beach towels we brought from home came up missing!! Never to be found...

Thank you for staying with us at the Holiday Inn Resort. I feel bad that you were less than inspired about the overall stay with us. There is no excuse for poor housekeeping service and I apologize for that. We are constantly working to get better. As far as our prices are concerned, we try to keep our prices fair and priced to the market. I think that once you’ve had the opportunity to compare us to other similar beach properties, you will come back and that is our desire.

We had a blast in the lazy river, and the view is amazing!

There's was a mermaid that came and swam with the kids and a pirate party another day. The outdoor bar was a treat. The only tip I could give is to tell your kids not to lean on the railings as they felt like they were a little flimsy, but that's where your parenting skills should kick in (watch your kids and you won't have a problem!).

It's a quick walk down the beach to Crabs, which I highly recommend. Get yourself a Rum Bucket, order the outstanding mac n cheese and some seafood and have fun with the locals. The kids can even have fun in this place. This place is owned by the same people as Flounder's across the street, which is also a blast and has excellent seafood with an outstanding atmosphere.

The huge ferris wheel is across the street from the hotel also and there's plenty to do in the Pensacola Beach area. There was a liquor store next door when we were there.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room, its totally worth it!

So much fun reading your review. They moved that ferris wheel to Atlanta since you were here. I’m letting you know so you will not be disappointed when you come back. But with our family friendly resort and that beautiful beach how can you go wrong.
See you soon,

This was our first stay at the Holiday Inn Resort in Pensacola Beach. We were very satisfied with the cleanliness of the property and the rooms. You were in constant contact with maintenance employees who were very friendly while they cleaned the property; they were not intrusive at all and it was very calming to know that everything was very clean including the pool. We originally booked a beach side room with two queen beds but we were upgraded for free to the "kids" suite. We were allowed to view both rooms before we made our final decision. The kids suite has a partitioned room with a bunk bed and a PlayStation 3. You can rent games from the hotel staff but we found it cheaper to buy our kids some cheaper PS3 games at Wal-Mart. This room is on the Bay side instead of the beach side so we missed out on the private balcony and the view of the beach but it kept our kids sane when they couldn't go to the beach or the pool. The pool is very kid friendly and has a lazy river that is around 3 ft. deep. There is one area where it is 5 ft deep but as long as you are with your kid and/or they can swim, they should be OK. The pool can become very crowded around mid-day and you probably won't be able to find a pool chair unless you "claimed" it with personal towels and/or belongings early in the morning (and I do mean early). They also have a kiddie pool that is 1 ft. deep and two saunas. Every night at 8 pm, the hotel has a movie for the kids. This is usually done at the pool on a big inflatable screen but if weather doesn't permit, they have the movie on the second floor of the hotel. Also, they have activities for the kids at the pool every day. They can party with pirates and swim with the mermaids, have their face painted and even paint seashells. The Riptide Sports Bar and Grill has some really great food (I personally recommend the Lemon Pepper wings), however, the breakfast buffet is less to be desired. Service can be extremely slow at times. And while I realize they can get busy and that they cook to order, a family of 5, with children aged 5 and 7, can get bored very quickly waiting on food, especially when it takes 40+ minutes and you don't want them getting back in the pool before they eat. Prices for food and other things such as beach chairs and small items like kids toys and sun screen seem a little on the expensive side but this isn't a shock since it's a very touristy area. The beach chair rentals are $6 an hour or $34 for the day (the beach chair rental company is not affiliated with the hotel but they can charge the fee to your room if you prefer). They start setting these chairs up very early in the morning and in the good spots so if you plan on getting a good spot on the beach with your own chairs, head out there around 5 or 6 am. You can have items such as food, alcoholic drinks, and trinkets charged to your room and the resort also offers room service but a 20% service charge will be added. This is not a complain but rather something that people considering booking this resort should be aware of. Another point of note is that the "Kids Eat Free" promotion is only for eating at the restaurant NOT for room service, the Tiki bar or poolside service. The only complaint that we had is that for the price that we were paying for the room, they could have at least added a Continental breakfast in for free like most standard hotels and Holiday Inns do. The Tiki bar has some really awesome staff! Our favorite bartender was Taylor. She is very friendly and upbeat. She was very quick on her feet and was attentive to all of her customers, making sure their drinks were full and that they were happy. We were slightly unhappy with the price of the drinks since we could find them cheaper at a regular bar but we were satisfied with how the drinks were made. If you don't want to purchase alcoholic beverages from the bar, there is a liquor store located next door to the hotel. If you are looking to honeymoon or to come as a couple, this resort probably wouldn't fit your needs as it is very much tailored to families with children. Overall, our experience was great. Not sure if we will visit again but it was a very memorable experience and we will remember this place if we decide to have another resort vacation on the Florida panhandle.

Room Tip: The beach side rooms have really great views of the beach and the pool/lazy river. These rooms also...

We recently stayed at this hotel, last weekend of July 2014. Overall, we had a very nice time. Our two kids, 9 and 6, LOVED the pool with the lazy river and waterfalls. That is the biggest plus for
This hotel.
Pro's:
Wonderful pool area and childrens entertainment
Nice, clean room, comfortable bed
Excellent beach views and access to the gulf
Nice front desk staff, pool area staff, and housekeeping staff

Con's
Riptides resteraunt. The breakfast food is mediocre for the prices. Kids eat free, but in reality, the higher price of adult meals is paying for the kids meals anyways. The service is slow and the staff, especially the hostess and the coffee bar girl were not friendly at all and gave inaccurate information and were not helpful on multiple occassions. My mom wanted to just order a meal to go and not eat inside, but the hostess told her she was not aloud to take it to go, that she HAD to stay in the restaraunt to eat it, then when my mom pressed, finally she gave it to her to go, but didn't give her everything that went with her meal and when she asked for what she was supposed to get, it was met with an attitude.
We ate there again for lunch and meals were not right, service was slow, the server was nice, but again the same hostess was rude and the food was just okay. I got the crabby pattys (crab cakes on a salad) and it was aweful and they didn't gie me the dressing. Basically two plain crab cakes on top of iceberg lettuce for $13. I will say that the burgers and sandwiches are pretty good and when we ordered from poolside the day before we got great service. It just seems to be the resteraunt inside that has some problems that need to be worked out.

Even though our room was really clean and nice, the closet door was broken and the fridge didn't work. For the high cost to stay here, you expect better.

The housekeeping staff we came in contact with were very friendly, but it seems to be understaffed. The day we checked in, rooms were still being cleaned way after 4pm and there was management running up and down the hallway frantically trying to see what rooms were ready or something and there were tons of people in the lobby downstairs waiting for their rooms. I'm not sure what happened there.

One of our key's didn't work after twice going back to get it fixed.

In conclusion, we had a nice time, the kids had a blast, again, love the pool. But there are definitely some kinks that need to be worked out. If the price to stay here was a little less, most of those things would be easy to look over, but at over $400/night....My God, you better have the kinks worked out. I just don't know if we'd stay here again.

Room was clean and staff was very friendly. Pool area was great. Gorgeous view of the gulf from room. Within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. This made for a great first visit to the panhandle. We only wished it were warmer so that we could swim; next time we'll come when it's warm enough to swim. And we'll definitely stay here on our return visit!

I have great news for you. Our pool is currently having heaters installed so we will have a 100,000 lazy river pool very soon. So next time you come get ready for a heated pool even in the winter months. It really should be fantastic.

The Holiday Inn Resort in Pensacola Beach is a wonderful vacation spot. This year was the 3rd year in a row that we have vacationed there. The grill has good food, if not gourmet, the staff is superb, and the pool is marvelous. It has a tanning deck, a tiki bar nearby and a lazy river. It is quite a large pool with an extra kiddie pool and two hot tubs. It is located right on the beach and within walking distance to many fine restaurants. We will go back this year.

Room Tip: Be sure to book beachfront!

My wife and 3 children just spent 4 days at the Holiday Inn Resort Pensacola Beach Gulf Front.
Overall, a very nice experience, if you don't mind dealing with a few inconveniences. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
- Excellent beach front location, with easy access to great sand and water. Just take the walkway to the sand and it is awesome!
- Great lazy river pool, and a couple of hot, hot tubs. Just great! Our kids really enjoyed coming back from the beach towards the end of the day, and finishing the daily adventures in the pool. My wife and I loved the hot tubs.
- Plenty of towels to go around. Friendly staff at the towel counters will hand out as many towels as you need. They are not the super long beach towels but, hey! You can get a bunch of them together.
- Very friendly staff. Really. Super, super nice people.
- Clean, bright rooms. We had the ocean front rooms and the view was magnificent. Plenty of toiletries, and more is available at the front desk if you want.

Cons:
- Oh the noise. Loud in every aspect. The AC units are so loud that, no matter how hard a sleeper you are (I am not), you will wake up every time they kick on. If you are watching TV, and the AC starts blowing, forget about it. You will not be able to hear the TV.
The doors provide almost no sound insulation from the hallways. Any movement in the hallways can be heard in the rooms. Given that this is a family oriented hotel, with lots of children roaming around, it is very loud. The front desk seems to be aware of it, and provides ear plugs at your request. However, I recommend you bring your own, since the ones they provide are not that great and will hurt your ears after a while.

- Though the restaurant and bar staff are very, very friendly, they seem to have received little training. They had no clue of what they were doing. Breakfast time was chaotic. We had to wait for long periods of time each morning for a table, even though there were plenty of available tables. Their excuse was that the kitchen and waitstaff were backed up. You'd look into the restaurant, and there seemed to be lots of workers, but they were running around lost. Same thing at the poolside bar/restaurant. We ate there once for lunch, and waited for about 30 minutes for the food (mostly appetizers). What's more amazing is that it took almost an hour to get our bill. For beachside food, walk the couple hundred yards to other restaurants on the beach and save time.

- The number of elevators did not seem to be sufficient for a hotel of that size. Always congested, always a wait. Though we were on the 9th floor, we took the stairs a few times, tired from waiting.

- Internet connection is spotty. If you have to rely on the hotel's wifi for business, forget about it. Bring your hotspot.

- Overpriced. Sure it is a matter of supply and demand. But I paid the same amount there that I paid, a week earlier, for a 5 star hotel in Shanghai.

Again, if you don't mind some of these inconveniences (I had my ear plugs, had my hotspot, don't mind the stairs, and found other things to do while waiting for food), it is a great family place. Not a honeymoon destination or a romantic getaway.

Room Tip: High floor with Gulf view are a must! The bay view is not bad either, but you can't beat the bal...

Thank you for your thorough review. You are a very experienced traveler so your comments carry a great deal of weigh and importance. We hope that you will come back to us again knowing that anything we can improve we do and will. We serve the entire facility F&B so sometimes tables are available inside but totally occupied outside therefore creating a bit of a wait for service which I apologize for.
