We had a (mostly) good stay at the Holiday Inn resort. The hotel is nice, new, and attractive. It is apparent that staff has been trained to greet patrons at every opportunity. Virtually everyone we encountered was friendly. The hotel has an outdoor pool with a small lazy river, which we enjoyed using during the warm hours of the day. Beds were comfy with good quality linens, and we had a mini fridge and microwave in our room.

We stayed in one of the few "wraparound" balconies. (I believe there are only 5 rooms of this type). The wraparound balcony sits mostly on the front (street) side of the building, and wraps slightly around the east side of the building. These balconies sit on the upper floors, so you have a great view of the bay and the street, and a pretty good view of the gulf. We enjoyed having the large balcony, though there is a bit of street and parking lot noise. Overall I would recommend the wraparound balcony rooms.

There were a few snags. We tried to check-in around noon, and were told the room wouldn't be ready for 90 minutes. The friendly clerk took our phone number and promised to call when the room was ready. No call was ever received, so we finally headed back to check-in well after 3 pm. We didn't expect a convenience call, but we were promised one, so we waited for a call that never arrived. We also had a maintenance issue that we called about (broken plastic chair with sharp edges), but no one ever came to fix our problem despite promises to the contrary. Housekeeping was also a little spotty. They didn't vacuum our room, leaving crumbs and small bits of food accumulated on the carpet for days. Finally, the hot tub heater was broken for three of the four days we were at the hotel. As a result, both hot tubs were freezing cold. That might not be a big issue during the summer, but on cool October nights the tubs really should have been usable. On Friday night, we were told the tubs should be working by Saturday. Saturday and Sunday came and went with no fix. Only on Monday night did the tub finally become reasonably warm. By that time it was almost time for us to head home. Another promise broken. We enjoyed our stay, but the hotel does have room for improvement in the maintenance department.

For those expecting freebies, this might not be your hotel. There is no free breakfast. The hotel has a restaurant and breakfast starts at about $10-12 per person. Dinner options were a bit pricey, even when compared to better local restaurants. Beach chairs and umbrellas run $5 per hour or a maximum of $30 for the day. Best bet is to bring your own or pick one up at one of several nearby beach gear shops. The hotel itself has a small shop for sundries, with high prices. A small candy bar runs $2.50 and many other items are similarly expensive.

For those who have never been to Pensacola, the beaches are really great. Lots of clear, shallow water and soft white sand. Great for kids or adults. I can only think of one island I've ever visited in the Caribbean that had beaches this nice. If you can drive here within a day, this is a totally worthwhile destination for a 3-4 day trip. Pensacola is also a bit less touristy than Destin, more of an adult destination with more history and less go karts and the like. The nearby forts, national seashore, Navy Aviation Museum, and lighthouse also offer more for adult visitors. For people without kids, it is probably the better choice.

Room Tip: Wraparound balconies are the largest the property has to offer. They sit on the street of the build...

We stopped here for a one night stay on our drive home from Orlando to Texas. The room was nice and updated, very clean, and the view was great. Loved having direct access to the beach, which was very clean too. We also loved the pool area, especially the lazy river! We ate dinner at the cafe that night; food was a little overpriced, but it tasted decent and it was nice not having to leave the hotel to go and find something to eat after a long day of traveling. The only bad thing was that we didn't have more time to stay here!

My husband, child, and myself generally go to Destin for spring and fall breaks. We decided on Pensacola this year. Great hotel with a very family friendly environment. Not sure how it is other times of the year, but we had no crowded says at the beach or any restaurants. Riptides in the hotel was fabulous and our son at free for breakfast and dinner. The hotel was clean and very bright and colorful. We will definitely visit again!

This is the best place to stay with kids. They were thrilled as we walked into the beautiful lobby and they could see the lazy river and pool in back. When we arrived to our room, the view from the window and balcony of the pool and the ocean in back was also beautiful. Unfortunately, there was a sour smell in the room that we decided to put up with. After unpacking our suitcases, we discovered a wet spot on the carpet. We were moved to another room, this time across from the ice machine, which we rejected. Once we were in the third room, we settled in and had a great time.

Our children really enjoyed visiting the lazy river at night when it was lit up with colored lights, and during the day. It was so convenient to walk across the walkway to the ocean. At night, hotel guests took flashlights out onto the beach and looked for little white crabs that scurried like spiders across the sand. During the day, the children stood in the clear water and saw fish and collected hermit crabs.

The tiki bar had a special rum drink in a bucket that was
wonderful. Sitting on the balcony on the third floor made for interesting people watching, but the sound of the waterfalls and music obscured the sound of the
ocean. If we got up early enough, we could enjoy the sound of the ocean before they turned on the waterfalls. One morning, at around 8:45, we were able to spot multiple dolphins out on the ocean from our balcony.

The hotel beds were comfortable and air conditioning worked well. The cons were that the coffee maker was missing a part, the hot tubs were out of commission, and the rooms were cleanedvvery late in the afternoon.

If I didn't have children, I might look for a hotel that is more peaceful and allows an unfettered view and sound of the ocean. Also, I should note that we came in the off-season and during the week. When we left it was Saturday, and it was getting a lot more crowded and not as relaxing. However, this hotel is definitely the best choice for those with
children. They had a blast here.

Spent 4 nights at this hotel last Sunday to Thursday. Wife and I took our 2 grandchildren 1 & 5yo. We had a great time. I cannot think of 1 bad thing about this place. Loved the pool, the beach, buffet breakfast, and ocean front room. The pool is the best on Pensacola beach. The hotel was nice and clean. The kids had a great time and were welcome there. Will return in the future.

We stayed again at this Holiday Inn Resort. Nilla at the front desk always remembers us and is so helpful and friendly. Our grandson loves the Lazy River and we enjoy the higher up Gulf side rooms with the great Gulf & beach view. The room was a nice size with balcony, very clean and beds comfortable. We wanted to stay 2 nights but could only stay one because they were booked for Friday night. We will definitely be back this winter and stay longer. Thanks Holiday Inn Resort for a nice vacation.

Room Tip: We prefer the Gulf side but the Bay side has a beautiful view too.

Thank you for your very nice review. You’re an amazing guest that we appreciate so much. Knowing that you come often and bring your grandson is so very special. I love watching the young ones jump into the lazy river pool with their eyes getting so big. You mentioned Nilla and I’m glad you did because she is very special to our family here at the resort. I like to refer to her as our superwoman desk specialist. You are one of many who love her.
