“Great Beach Bad Hotel”
Reviewed July 14, 2008

I stay 7 days and had a bad experience. first they could not upgrade me to a view front. they gave priority to walkins instead of two year customer. Restrooms smell urine everyday. to big of a hotel for two washers as well as dryers. toilets and shower head were moldy. parking lot to small for the prperty. they had a conference and you be lucky to find a parking space. i had to park across the road at wings parking lot. paying 250dlls a night at least i should have a parking space. a guest from room 307. I should have stay next door at the Hamptoms and pay less.

Just got back from a stay at the Pensacola Beach Hilton. Hotel is OK, all things considered. PROs: Right on the beach, easy in/out from the island, across from the boardwalk strip, 3 working computers in the business center, cold AC, soft beds, working frig and MW in the room, active security checking patrons, helpful front desk, organized activities for the little kids, nice outdoor pool bar with good service, front desk always had cookies and apples. CONs: rooms are small (former Hilton Garden, maybe bigger/better in the new suites), maid service was poor (no extra TP or shampoo/cond/etc). The hotel is active (crowded) which may be a good sign. We did not spend a lot of time in the room, beach is huge, water is beautiful. Lots of people out at night on the beach, at the pool. Most patrons are there for a good time ; )
It's not fancy, but hey, it's not the office either!

  • Liked — right on the beach
  • Disliked — poor maid service

My family stayed at this hotel for one night while on our way to Orlando. The room was nice, with a balcony overlooking the pool area and beach.

There were complimentary cookies at the front desk, and the pool area was beautiful. The beach was easily accessible.

For our return trip, we stayed at the Hampton Inn next door. I can't understand why the overall reviews for the Hilton aren't better. Everyone in my family, including two teenagers, preferred this hotel to the Hampton Inn next door.

  • Liked — Pool area and beach location.
  • Disliked — Rooms could have been larger.

Unfortunately my first impression of the Hilton Gulf tainted the remainder of my stay. Upon arrival my party and I were informed that our room was not yet ready, which was fine since we had arrived two hours early. We enjoyed the pool area (complete with screaming children) and went out to eat. When we arrived back at the hotel hours later we were informed our room was still not ready and that our pleasant patience needs to be improved because the hotel was full and housekeeping was struggling to clean all the rooms in time - a hotel should have enough housekeepers to clean the rooms they have. So finally, even with a high priority we were let into our room 6 hours after we arrived.

My husband and I joined our friends for a few days of relaxation. Our friend is a Hilton Diamond Club member, and she booked two rooms with the Hilton using her reward points. She was told we would have beach vew rooms. On our arrival, we were told these rooms were not available. The girl working the desk got the manager to talk with us. She basically repeated what the girl had said and we were given two sound view rooms. The manager was unfriendly and did not seem sympathetic at all. She promised us two ocean view rooms the following day and promised they would be ready by noon. the folloiwng day, we began checking with the desk at noon. We were promised each time that "a rush" was being put on it, and it would be soon. It was nearly four o'clock the next day when we finally got out ocean view rooms. We were given rooms 210 and 212. These rooms do overlook the ocean, however, there is a large concrete roof underneath the windows. This was basically a "catch all" for any items a person on an upper floor threw off their balcony. There were dirty diapers and boxer shorts there. Needless to say, we felt we got the two worst ocean view rooms.

The hotel was extremely crowded;. therefore, there was a severe shortage of lounge chairs by the pool. The bar service was slow, even when no other patrons were at the bar. The food in the hotel restaurant was good, but a little pricey.

The beach was beautiful. We did have great food at several local restaurants, Ageans, The Fish House, McGuires, and Peg Leg Pete's. Overall it was a good trip. I would recommend staying at a different hotel. The Hampton Inn next door looked great, much more quiet with plenty of chairs at the pool.

  • Liked — Beds were reasonably comfortable
  • Disliked — The staff was not helpful

We recently booked a 4 night stay because of the hotel website showed such a nice, tropical, relaxing pool area overlooking the beach. Just what we were looking for!
Although the rooms and pool area was nice, there were only a few lounge chairs around the pool. It was a nightmare. Some guests got out there at 6am and reserved chairs with a towel or a hat and hoarded them all day, so needless to say, we enjoyed our days lounging on the CONCRETE. We asked the management for more chairs, but they said "most of them are in the shop for repair" and did nothing! There was ample room at the pool for 4 to 5 TIMES the charis that were out there. In places, it almost looked like an empty parking lot.
I will say that most of the employees were very nice though.

The room was clean and the beach was nice. The service left something to be desired. Crowded and impersonal service. Could not call front desk with questions. All calls went to voicemail and no Wi Fi connection in rooms only in lobby. Business center with 3 computers available for use.

Indoor and outdoor pool, VERY crowded with many children. It appeared the the Hampton Inn guests were allowed to share the pool at the Hilton.

Beach was beautiful and clean. Umbrellas with 2 chairs available were available for rent for appox $25/ day. Well worth it. Others brought their own umbrealla only to have them turn inside out with the wind off the ocean. Beach significantly less crowded than pool area.

Woul not recommend for singles, honeymooners or romantic getaways. There are probably less expensive hotels on the beach with equivalent level of service and amenities. I would say that this Hilton is nothing special.

  • Liked — Beachfront location
  • Disliked — Below average service for Hilton Hotels. Impersonal atmosphere
