Great site to take in a little bit of Florida and Civil War history. We took our two boys, ages 13 & 9 and they really enjoyed learning about and getting to view the fort and its history.

It is an amazing drive out to the tip of Ft. Pickens. An $8 entry fee is good for a week and we wish we would have known that earlier on as we visited the last day we were there. Locals say after a severe storm the roads are covered in sand as the sound and gulf expanse become so narrow. Easy self guided tours, fishing pier and beaches. Camping/protected wildlife.

Built in the early 1800's to protect the bay it sits on the end of the island near the entrance to the bay. Historical! The Indian chief Geronimo was held there as prisoner before being transferred to Ft Sill in Ok. Built by slave labor it allows you to gain a little insight in to what those early soldiers went through. It will cost $8.00 to enter the park per vehicle. But that's for an 7 day pass.

Bring your bug spray. Takes about half a day to see the fort, drive around the park and see the old batterys, then the drive back out threw the national sea shore. Its a nice place and worth the visit.

It was so pretty and we wish we would have went there before the day before we were heading home. So much to explore.
