Spent a fasciinating couple of hours visiting with a friend from Whangarei. Heaps to see, could have stayed longer but had other places we had to be.

This is well worth the effort to get to. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this experience, the history of these trees is fascinating and the gum is something I was unaware of.
We spent a good 90 minutes but you can easily spend another hour there especially if your into early steam engines and design.

We spend a very informative afternoon walking around the museum and saw not only things made of Kauri but also the way it was milled and used. What brave, strong people our pioneers were.

The staff were very well informed about all aspects of the early days in Northland and certainly kept our tour group entertained. You do need extra time to go back and revisit some of the exhibits but I would recommend that you do join a tour group to get even more details than are displayed with the exhibits.

Well worth the drive!

This museum is among the best I've seen ! We didn't plan on stopping but found it amazing. They had a discovery trail for kids - even the teen enjoyed it. The museum has great working parts displays etc which are interactive. Worth the drive!
