What a great place, quiet, clean and quaint. As it was winter we had a choice of places to put the camper. We chose somewhere reasonably close to the amentities building. Lovely clean place. If you want to visit the Kauri Museum it is right next door. A distance from a lot of placed, however not an issue for us as we had the camper.

We stopped in a two bedroom park motel cabin for three nights at around NZ$100 per night.. Main bed was in the living/kitchen area which also had table and 4 chairs and small TV. The separate bedroom contained 2 single beds.Cooking was double hotplate and microwave. We made use of the BBQ at the camp kitchen which seemed pretty well fitted out. On little verandah was table and 2 chairs so we could sit and watch the tide come in and out on Kaipara Harbour. The park was very clean and quiet. The unit was one of two in a duplex setup. Little beach reached via a walk through paddock was also tidal. Walk to the Kauri Museum was really convenient as they did pass-outs so you could return later in the day. Nearby restaurants are in short supply so we self catered evening meals. Sahara restaurant at Paparoa learned of via TA was only open Fri-Sun which did not suit. My laptop had trouble receiving the signal from the WiFi except when I was on verandah.
Staff were really helpful with activities to do around about. We did many of those which were not listed in travel guides. The Bushmen's walk to Kauri grove which is only about 5 minutes drive south was not heavily visited and really good. Drives to Pahi and Tinopai were also interesting.

This park is very close to the Kauri Museum. Relatively small, its powered sites are quite flat (some shaded) and are clustered around a very clean and well equipped amenity block with washing, drying, toilets, kitchens etc. There are only two showers and toilets each side therefore some congestion might be expected if the site was full. There is a dump station. Wifi only works close to the office and although reasonably priced, is for continuous time periods only (minimum period three continuous hours). This is a good quiet camp site close to a major attraction and I would return if ever in the area again.
