Me and my partner have been here twice. The gardens are lovely but when it comes to the hyped up tea room it isn't that great. We had soup which was quite over priced and bland then scones with jam and cream which were just as good as anywhere else. What really let's this place own is the staff/owners. We got the impression that as they were getting ready to close for the year they couldn't be bothered and were quite ignorant . We felt quite rushed and not welcome. Wouldn't go again . The tea room in morwenstowe in fab in comparison .

We arrived at 3pm in one of the hottest days of this summer. There didn't seem to be many other people visiting. We were welcomed and given a guide sheet which was useful. It sent us off up a very steep bank and walk that was extremely disappointing -we felt that we had been mislead until we crossed the drive into a superb summer garden formed around the mill leat. It would have been better if the I Irish guide had explained that the 1st part was very much a spring garden and of little interest in July. Not sure if go again.

We visited Docton Mill Gardens in June. Although the weather was not good the gardens were wonderful, The tea rooms provided us with good homemade cake and coffee. Well worth the drive through narrow lanes to find it.

Truly one of the great gardens in Devon, worth every bit of the journey out to Hartland to see it (you can also visit Hartland Abbey Gardens while you're in the area). Superb woodland areas (fabulous tree collection), long herbaceous borders and bog gardens all set in a wonderfully picturesque valley location - absolutely a must-see for all gardening enthusiasts. The food offered was top notch too - we had a perfect cream tea, while on the table next to us another couple were really enjoying their Devon Crab. All visitors' facilities are spotlessly clean; in fact it's impossible to think of anything negative to say about the place! We strongly recommend making the effort to get there to experience it - whether you're gardeners or not, you can't fail to be enchanted by the place.

Very relaxed atmosphere. Sunny aspect protected from the cold wind. Enjoyed a pleasant lunch of filled rolls and coffees. Both our dogs were welcome. On this occasion didn't do the walk as one of our party had an injured foot and the map we were lent to study advised it involved a fair bit of climbing steps and slopes. Plan to return another time and explore the gardens. From what we did see the gardens were very pretty and well cared for. Flowers everywhere. The staff were pleasant and helpful.
