Though we didn't have time to do Angel's Landing or very far back into the Narrows, this was our favorite hike in Zion. Just one mile round trip out and back, not too steep. Nice path with good scenery along the way, then an amazing view of the canyon at the end. It's also cool because you can see the steep, windy road that brought you to the trailhead from the rest of the park.

“Beautiful short hike”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

This was a nice hike hike. We missed the turn off for it...it is right after you exit the tunnel going east on your left. We went around 9:30, which was perfect. Parts are in the full sun and some parts are in the cool shade. Some parts are steep with drop offs next to trail. It was an interesting short hike and well worth it.

This was our favorite hike. Great views, nice path, definitely go early morning before it gets too hot. Well worth the climb, takes about an hour I think.

“Wow. One of the best views of the park.”
Reviewed June 14, 2013 via mobile

After tackling Angel's Landing and a few other trails in the park, we scheduled this one on our way out since the trailhead was in that direction. It did not disappoint.

A little bit of a climb, but once atop, the view is breathtaking. There are very few rails on the vista so if you have young children, be sure to stay well ahead of them when approaching the end of the trail and keep a good eye on them as well. And be sure to snap many shots from different vantage points. If you have a panorama feature on your camera, this is the spot to use it.

“A Short Worthwhile Hike in a Cooler Environment”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

The trailhead for the Canyon Overlook Trail, a fairly easy 1 mile round trip trail to an excellent overlook of Pine Creek Canyon with views of Zion Canyon, is located on the northern side of the Zion-Mt Carmel Hwy just past the eastern end of the tunnel. Being higher in altitude and therefore cooler, this hike is a good option when the temperatures in canyons below soar. The very limited parking, with a primitive restroom, is across the road on the south side but unless you get a very early start, one is likely to be looking for a parking spot further down the road where one can find a few spots to park here and there along the shoulder. Unfortunately, the distance away one may need to park could double the length of the hike to the overlook but the hike is easy enough and the views good enough to make the hike nevertheless worthwhile. While there are a number of tricky spots, the climbing is minimal and mostly limited to the beginning of the trail; the overlook and the exposed parts of the trail are protected by railings so one feels secure at all times. A portion of the trail parallels a slot canyon below and one may hear or see people exploring the slot canyon from the trail. Also, keep your eyes open as one may spot bighorn sheep on the slickrock from the trail. From the protected overlook, one gets an excellent view of Pine Creek Canyon as it intersects with Zion Canyon in the distance and there is an interpretive sign describing the geological features one is viewing. From the viewpoint, one can also see the switchbacks of the Zion-Mt Carmel Hwy as it climbs out of the canyon as well as one of the tunnel’s galleries and the pile of stone rubble that was pushed out during the construction of the tunnel.
