“Beautiful Views, easy hike”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

This can be a family hike which is only about 1 mile up and 1 mile back. This hike is less busy than Angels Landing, mainly due to the lack of parking. You get amazing views within a very short distance. Although appropriate for family hikes, make sure you keep your children close by your side as there are some very steep cliffs. A definite must-hike while visiting Zion.

“Nice short hike -- should have done it at sunrise”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

This is a nice short hike -- steep in a few places, but not too difficult. Some of the guides say it is beautiful at sunrise and sunset. It turns out that the view at the top is to the west, so it probably would be much better to go for sunrise than sunset like we did. Even so, the views were great and it's definitely worth the trip anytime of day.

“extremely rewarding (just 1 mile round trip)”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

This hike to Canyon Overlook is fairly easy and leads to absolutely beautiful views of part of Zion Canyon and the Zion - Mt Carmel Highway switchbacking up to leave the Canyon. There's a very modest elevation gain and the trail is easy to follow. At the Overlook, the main observation points are fenced (since there's an almost 1000 foot drop) but you can also go safely up on nearby rocks and get great views and photos without the fence in view.

I did this hike fairly early -- about 9am -- which was an excellent angle for the sun to illuminate the formations in Zion Canyon. Early is better too as it's cooler -- it can get very hot in Zion.

There are two parking areas, one of which is to the right just as you exit the last tunnel on the Zion - Mt Carmel Highway as you drive out of Zion Canyon. If you miss this, you can park up ahead a few hundred feet on the left.

“Quick and rewarding”
Reviewed April 29, 2013 via mobile

A nice quick hike right out the east side of the Mt. Carmel tunnel. Sunrise would probably give you the best views for the shortest hike in the park if you wanted to get up early. But even at midday, the views of Pine Creek Canyon and the road to the tunnel are great. Parking is limited, so have a backup hike ready to go if you get through the tunnel and can't find a place to park.

“Fantastic view, fairly easy trail.”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

We LOVED this short hike to a fabulous view of the Canyon from above. It was a pretty easy hike for anyone over the age of 7, though you should keep a close eye on young hikers. Hikers younger than 7 can probably do it with a little adult help and watched closely. I don't think most people would find it scary. It was exhilarating to come out at the end of the trail to the fantastic view. I highly recommend that you not miss this hike on your trip. Very worth it!
