“Great escape into countryside in a lovely cabin setting”
Reviewed September 15, 2009

We weren't sure we would appreciate staying on the eastern side of Zion rather than in Springdale but now we are really glad we did. The temperature here was 15 to 20 degrees cooler than in the canyon and in Springdale which were running in the low 100's. This place is a great escape from the crowds of people in town - so quiet at night. But don't plan on checking your phone messages as our cell phones didn't work and there aren't phones in the rooms. There is one at the registration building if you have to call out. We stayed with another couple in one of the two bedroom cabins and were happy to find that both bedrooms were "Master" bedrooms with full baths ensuite. Both rooms had huge Jacuzzi tubs as well as a separate shower. Super for soaking after we had a trail ride right there on the property. The cabin also had a mini kitchen with a dorm size refer. a microwave, a small sink, coffeemaker and a small two burner hotplate. They don't advertise them as kitchens but there was enough pots, plates and implements to make up snacks, lunches or breakfasts if you bring supplies. The staff went out of their way to accomodate my Husband who is a F1 fan by arranging their TV package to get Speed channel for the weekend. That says a lot about the hospitality ... We also ate at the restuarant twice. Very good food, they grow a lot of their own vegetables and herbs and I had great homemade rasberry syrup on my pancakes. It was byob for wine though. No manicured gardens around the cabins but lots of pines. All in all we really enjoyed our stay.

A friend and I stayed here for two nights. It was fabulous! The setting is so picturesque! We had a cabin, beautifully decoraated in the Western/Adirindack style. It had a microwave and refrigerator, the latter very useful for keeping cold beers to enjoy on our porch overlooking the grazing buffalo. A big plus was the delicious, also nicely decorated restaurant. The food was delicious and the service exellent. At this time they did not have a liquor license, so plan to bring your own if desired. The location is on the east side of the park. This means you have a drive to the visitors' center to catch the shuttle. Getting throught the tunnel could be a problem if there is a lot of traffic. We felt the location "Far from the Maddening Crowds" was well worth it.

We stayed in one of the meadow view cabins and was pleasantly surprised by how large and clean our cabin was! The beds and duvet were so comfy -- it was difficulty to leave the bed in the morning. We had never traveled to Zion Nat'l Part and weren't sure which area to stay in -- Mt. Carmel Junction or Springdale. We're so glad we chose Zion Mountain Resort in Mt. Carmel Junction. The quiet wide open space was so peaceful and was nice to look up into the starry skies & view the Milky Way. Their restaurant on premises was quite delicious. We tried their buffalo fillet; buffalo fajita salad (w/ fresh greens from their own garden); buffalo meatloaf; and ribs. All were so fresh, tender and delicious. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and accommodating but the folks in the front office could be a little more people friendly towards the guests. It wasn't that they were rude or anything, it's just that any information we needed, we had to really probe and pry out what we were seeking. Their wagon ride around the property was nice and relaxing and one of their resident horses, Zippity trotted alongside the wagon the entire ride. Overall, I would definitely stay at this property again and would highly recommend this resort to anyone.

We stay here in buffalo cabin #174 which had a front view of the property. The room was very clean and the bath room was spotless. It had a shower and the jacuzzi was in the room with the bed which is nice for a romantic night. There is a small icebox and microwave. The cabin has a nice big porch and a nice swing on the porch, it was nice and peaceful. The buffaloes were also cool to see. If you are a couple with no kids it's perfect. I wouldnt recommended it if you had kids. There isnt a pool or activities on the resort for kids like zion ponderosa but for a couple who wants to enjoy the peace and quiet or romantic getaway its perfect and my first choice. I'll be back that's for sure..

We found this resort on tripadvisor and decided to stay a night while en route to Zion National Park and Coral Pink Sand Dunes. The resort is located off the highway en route to the East entrance of Zion National Park and adjacent to a wild buffalo reserve (a hit with the kids).

Our group consisted of 4 adults and 3 small children (7, 6, and 3). When we arrived we upgraded to a two-level cabin (normally $300/night, offered to us at check-in for $200/night). The accommodations were absolutely first-rate --- everything (including the cabin itself) seemingly brand new. Two big, beautiful bedrooms each with a private balcony with wonderful views, each with a bathroom with dual-head shower and free-standing "Champagne Bubble" bathtub (a huge hit with the wives), comfortable beds and linens, and plenty of extra pillows. The cabin also had a comfortable living room (also with balcony), full dining table, and small kitchen (sink, microwave, hot plate). The entire cabin was spotless and appeared to be brand new.

We had dinner at the restaurant which offered a nice touch of sophistication and elegance (even with 3 little kids). In this case you get what you pay for: A small but comfortable dining room with views overlooking the buffalo reserve, well-presented and well-prepared dishes, appropriate portions, and a menu that incorporates local ingredients (I enjoyed the buffalo filet mignon with grilled local vegetables). As I often find with more rural destinations, the staff were eager to please but a little under-trained but that did not detract from a very satisfying dining experience. Also, no issues with children - they were welcomed by staff and fellow diners alike.

After dinner the kids were able to run around the adjoining lawn while the staff prepared a campfire at a nearby fire pit (a very nice touch). I noticed that the gift shop had ingredients for smores but by this time we were all ready to call it a night.

After a very comfortable and quiet night we departed, sorry that our itinerary didn't allow us a few more days to enjoy this hidden gem. We'll be back again I'm sure.

We stayed here for 3 nights in June in one of the Family Lodges. Our lodge was beautiful with 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, and a very nice kitchenette and sitting area. It was HUGE and we loved it!!! We enjoyed the 3 sliding doors with the balcony and patios with the porch swings. The lodge was very clean, although we found a number of spiders the first night we were there. I understand we are out in nature (we own a cottage and have spiders all the time) but was surprised at the number we found. I found 2 in the bathroom, 1 running across our bed the 1st night, and 1 on the floor the 1st night. The 2 in the bathroom were what bothered me because they were pretty far into the building and were probably there for a bit based on their webs. The 1 on our bed and floor, I can understand-there was a sliding door about 2 feet from where we found them. I'd suggest that the cleaning staff spend a little more time in the corners of the room cleaning!

I was disappointed in skills of one of the front desk resources in that she never offered any information to us. I had to pretty much pull information out from her on everything. It was one younger woman that I had to deal with each time. She was definitely friendly but could use some coaching on how to work with customers in sharing information (it would help them sell things such as horseback riding or eating in the restaurant!). Again, it wasn't that she was rude, it was just that I really had to pull to get information from her.

My mother, daughter, and husband did go on a private ride with Beezy and they LOVED it. He matched them well with horses and was quite funny as they rode. Based on my daughter having her own horse, he did give her the opportunity to do some trotting with him through the woods area. The scenery was beautiful. Beezy DEFINITELY understands customer service and is a gem at this resort.

The wildlife was wonderful to watch, especially the buffalo. The gentleman playing guitar every night was very friendly and helpful as were his wife and 2 daughters. In fact, my daughter still emails the girls since they became friends as my daughter wanted to hang with them and the horses while we were there.

The resort is very close to Zion and served as a good base area for us as we visited the park. I would recommend this resort based on the size of the lodging and the amenities with the horseback riding, buffalo watching, and nightly campfires.

Stayed here with our 6 year old and 10 year old boys. They loved the nightly campfires, bison, shooting stars (4 in one night), and old west feeling of the cabins. The cabin we stayed in was spotless and roomy. Staff at front desk was helpful in arranging day trips - you have to ask because no brochures or overt advertising of tourist traps are in the registration and small gift shop area. Our cabin had nice size fridge and microwave with a small counter to prepare snacks. If you plan to bring groceries make sure you get them before you get to the cabins. It's quite a drive to the nearest grocery - you can pick up a few things at a general store a few miles away.

We stayed here and did day trips to Zion, grand canyon (about 2 hours), and lake powell (about 1 1/2 hours). You can see the Bryce Canyon, Coral Sand Dunes, caves, and great scenery too. It was a great home base. Very comfortable to return back after a long day (just be careful with the hot showers - they are very hot).

Eat at the restaurant too. We've eaten at many places and this was much better than you would expect in the middle of a rural area. We had the ribs, bison burger, bison steak, and kids pasta (All were good).

Our kids didn't want to leave and neither did we. The last night there we star watched. It was the first time I understood the meaning of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star). Great place to relax (no cell phone reception or computer links!!!) - does have a TV with VCR and DVD for kids to relax too.
