“Great walk, even better view......”
Reviewed January 4, 2012

Took about 4.5 hr round trip and was lovely. Steep in places, both worth the view looking up the valley over the top of Angels Landing. Walk is straight forward, but steep in places, and no need for maps

We have always headed to hidden canyon but decided to try this one out. It was was a ton of great views and the mountain goats were fun to watch on the hillside.

“WOW!!! Super Hike”
Reviewed December 17, 2011

WOW!!! The Observation Point trail is one of the most interesting day hikes I have done. The trail head is accessed by the shuttle. After negotiating a number of switchbacks at the start of the trail, you enter Echo Canyon. There is some spectacular scenery here and is a great place to take photos. There are several small narrow slot canyons viable from here as well (similar style of those in Page, AZ, though not as spectacular) The trail then continues on into a more desert type landscape with more spectacular scenery. As you wind your way higher and higher you get more and more impressive views of the surrounding rock formations. The Trail is about 3 feet wide in parts with massive drop offs and no railings, so if you are afraid of heights, this may cause you some anxiety. I went on a perfect weather day, but if the weather was rainy or very windy it would be a bit treacherous in areas. Eventually you will get to the top of the mountain, having ascended something like 2500 ft. At this point you still have about a mile or so to go around the edge of the mountain to the actual observation point. The view from the point is breathtaking. You can look down on the entire canyon. It really gives you a great picture of Zion. You can also look down onto Angel's Landing from here. The entire hike is 8 miles round trip and moderately difficult. If you are in decent shape you will have no problems. This trail is much less traveled than Angel's Landing and the other well known trails so it can be quite relaxing. I highly suggest bringing your lunch and eating at the top. It is very quiet and inspiring. This is a fantastic hike.

“Enjoy the trek to the top.”
Reviewed December 13, 2011

This hike is not as difficult as you think. Sure, it's 8 miles round trip and you ascend 2,148 feet - but the trail is well maintained and easy to hike. Think of the difference between climbing a set of stairs and walking up a ramp. This is more like the ramp. The view from the top is as awesome as everyone says, but the varied terrain on the way up is just as enjoyable. Don't rush. Take your time. Savor it.

“Worth checking out”
Reviewed November 29, 2011

Shuttle from the ponderosa resort took us to the trail for observation point. From the drop-off it took about an hour to get to observation point which is at an elevation of 6508 feet. Make sure to have snacks, drinks with you.
