An incredible engineering project from our parents' generation. When the tour buses are present (which is most of the time) it is a one way tunnel, but the wait for your way is never very long. (The tour buses have to drive in the middle to keep from scraping the sides!)

This is called a "moderate" hike and does take an hour, as said. The climb is not so much difficult as not ideal for those who don't like narrow ledges that are unfenced here and there. I wore substantial but not hiking shoes and my feet slipped at times. Once on the top, the view was tremendous, but the thought of the decent was always on my mind. Would I do it again, no. If heights don't bother you and you are sure footed, would I recommend it - yes.

Quite an achievement!
There are a few vent openings along the route. When you get to a parking place after exiting the tunnel in the downward route, look up and look for them.

Actually, i'm surprised to find this in the list of attractions. I would not consider a few miles of darkness an attraction. The roads either side are fantastic, but the tunnel itself not really. It is a marvel of enginering, and i was glad someone created it. It makes Zion accessable from the east.
There are restrictions on the traffic allowed to go through the tunnel. It is very narrow. If you come in a RV, you must contact the park rangers to find out if you can get through.

Drove through the tunnel to get to the Canyon Overlook trail - it's a neat experience, but gets a little claustrophobic in there!
