Drove through the tunnel to get to the Canyon Overlook trail - it's a neat experience, but gets a little claustrophobic in there!

It's well worth the extra drive to go through the tunnel. We saw bighorn sheep near the East end of the tunnel. Stop at the East end and climb the trail, short and steep, to the canyon overlook.

Get's really backed up so plan accordingly. There are a few spots where a "window" opens to the canyon overlook but it just slows down the traffic when everyone wants to look.

A very cool chance to drive through a mountain tunnel. The window cutouts along the way offer a chance to peek out at the scenery along the mile drive. Be sure that your headlights work before entering the tunnel as there are no lights. It is also a narrow tunnel as it was built in a time when vehicles were not as wide as they are today. Those with wider vehicles such as RVs or trucks with dual wheels have to pay a fee for an escort through the tunnel.

The 1.1 mile drive with cutouts (from the east) is an entirely different aspect for viewing the beautiful scenery.
