“lovely location”
Reviewed December 13, 2007

the watchman camp ground is in a lovely setting, located close to the zion park entrance and free shuttle bus stops that will take you into the canyon or the town of springdale. ideal for parking up and not having to worry about driving while in the area. zion is a lovely canyon and easy to explore by bus and short hikes[longer ones for the more adventurous].when evening comes a ride into springdale for some interesting shops and nice restauraunts is a lovely end to the day. we visited in october when a lot of the crowds had gone, the weather was still pleasant and it was very peacefull.one of my favorite places.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Watchman campground in Zion National Park.

The site was fine, not very secluded, but with plenty of space. The toilets were clean.

The location of this campsite is great, right next to the entrance to the canyon and the visitor centre (but still fairly quiet).

The main drawback of the campsite is that there are no showers on site. Pay to use showers are availiable at the RV park a very short drive away, but these are very expensive ($4 for 8 minuites).

We arrived late the first night and ended up eating at the mexican resturant at the RV park- close to the canyon entrance. The food at this place was dire- don't go there. By far the worst mexican food I have ever had!

In contrast, on the second night we went into Springdale to eat and had the best mexican food we have ever had! We ate at the Bit and Spur resturant at the westen end of town. Great service, nachos and salsa while you order, and fantastic food- especially the pork and chile stew! Warmly recomended.

The canyon itself was great- wear stout boots and wade up the river at the end of the canyon- great fun, and it feels like a real adventure (for tourists like me anyway!). There are also plenty of dryland paths and hills to climb!

We camped at Watchman Campground inside Zion National Park which was absolute paradise. The campsite was clean and well taken care of, the ranger programs were interesting for all ages, and we were surrounded by indescribable beauty. The highlight of our stay was hiking through the narrows of the Virgin River which is a "don't miss" event but there were many other breathtaking hikes we would highly recommend. Our next stop was Bryce Canyon where we camped at Ruby's which was a little more "civilized" than would be our preference but for a traveler who would rather not "rough it" it would be a top destination as they can provide you with everything from horse back rides to Butch Cassidy's hide out to tickets to the rodeo to helicopter rides into the canyon. There are no words to describe Bryce other than - See it. Jr. Ranger programs are a terrific opportunity for the kids to get something special out of both parks while freeing parents up to spend time alone or to do more rigorous hikes. Of all of the places we have visited as a family, Bryce and Zion are the ones I am constantly getting requests to return to even though the average temperature when we were there in August was 112!!
