Maybe the problem is I was expecting great things from this road after reading all the reviews. Don't get me wrong, the drive was enjoyable just not as breathtaking as expected. We stopped to do the Canyon Overlook Trail and I insisted my husband park where there really wasn't a parking spot to do this because of the reviews but once again, while we enjoyed the trail and the view, I wouldn't call them spectacular. So stop if you are able to but don't fret if you can't as you get great views once you're through the tunnel, just pull over at one of the pull outs and enjoy.

Overall we enjoyed this drive and the canyon itself however it is not as spectacular as Bryce, Grand Canyon or Yosemite in our opinion. We didn't find the switchbacks particularly scary either however we live in a country where such roads are reasonably common. I guess if you live in a flat plains area of America you would find this road a very different experience. If we had limited time and had to miss one of the canyons mentioned above knowing what we know now, this is the one we would miss. Having said this, the road is an enjoyable way to reach Las Vegas from Bryce Canyon.

This road was how we got to Zion. The checkerboard mesa was beautiful. I mis-read the map so we missed the canyon viewpoint right before the main tunnel. Traffic is one-way at a time through the tunnel so it all depends on how you hit it as to how long the wait is. On the way in we were right behind a tour bus and it was entertaining wondering if it was going to make it through. As the passanger I was able to see a little out the opening in the tunnel. It must have been really wonderful when you could actually stop there to get good views. The tunnel is an engineering marvel. If you suffer from motion-sickness though this road might cause problems.

Very beautiful and it seemed to get better around every turn and there are alot of turns. The tunnel was awesome, can't imagine the work that went into digging it out. Just take this drive slowly and enjoy.
