Owner description: Angel's Landing is one of Zion's most spectular scenic outlooks; it can be reached only by a very demanding hike on the West Rim Trail.

If you like scenic hikes with dramatic views and little bit of work then do this hike. It looks so much harder and scarier than it actually is. That being said, if you have a fear of heights then this is not the trail for you. Go either very early, or later in the evening. Not only will the temps be cooler, but you won't have to deal with the constant flow of hikers. I have hiked in many places and this is very unique and offers arguably the best views from any hike I'm the states.

We started early, so the trail wasn't very crowded. On the way down, we passed a lot of hikers, so I would suggest starting fairly early as its more peaceful that way. We made it most of the way, but I was just too anxious to go all the way up where you have to hold on to chains while you climb. Gorgeous views. An unforgettable trip!

While majority of this route is merely a hike, steep and switchback laden, but on a paved, easy to follow trail, the upper portion of the mountain presents a great challenge, especially for those not comfortable with heights. The trail is narrow and often exposed. Metal chains aid the climbers who accept the challenge. The reward is a spectacular 360 degrees view. A must see if you are in the area and have head for heights.

I would recommend an early start to beat both the heat and the crowds. It's easier to go up and down the last section if you don't have to constantly yield to the opposite traffic.

This was a beautiful and exhilarating hike but was crowded in midafternoon. That made it a little hairy on the narrow portions but it was well worth doing. Not a difficult hike physically, but if you have any anxiety over heights it can be very tough at times.

beauxp has covered everything in great detail, I just thought I'd add some pictures.

We made it through the first set of chains, by which time we were already feeling a bit height-sick. The view of the Angel's landing and the final portion of the hike was pretty intimidating, and we were unable to continue to the top. Even through the first set of chains was a spectacular view, but we encountered a lot of traffic coming back down, which made it feel more dangerous.

I'd recommend to start early, not only to beat the crowds, but because in June it gets very hot by midday, and the heat can be just as demoralising as the height.
