Owner description: Angel's Landing is one of Zion's most spectular scenic outlooks; it can be reached only by a very demanding hike on the West Rim Trail.

The hike up is challenging at times, but a lot of fun. Beware though, the last section up to the top of Angels Landing is treacherous. You should be a good, lithe, experienced hiker, with ropes. People sadly have lost their lives here.

We did not take that last climb, but instead continued on another trail for awhile, and watched some intrepid folks from a distance. A great overall hike, and I'd take others to it again. Next time we might do the all day hike that the continuing trail takes you on.

This was the highlight of our trip.

It was snowy and icy! BRING YOUR EQUIPMENT! I was shocked to see so many hiking Angels with their tennis shoes on! NO! Dangerous! We had spikes and everything!

Take your time, stop and enjoy what you are doing and seeing. The experience is breathtaking!

This was the hike that had us walking around like stiff zombies the next day, but it was wonderful exercise and provides a spectacular view from Angel's Landing. This is absolutely not a trail for young children, as it gets very, very steep with drop-offs that no one would survive falling from. We could not believe our eyes when we saw people attempting to hike up wearing flip flops - good hiking/trail shoes are really a must when it comes to scaling rock faces safely. We loved this hike and recommend it highly! Be sure to bring plenty of snacks and lots of water. We were too sparse on snacks and felt a little shaky coming down, as this trail uses a lot of "body fuel" round-trip.

This is an amazing hike. It is not for the average person. You need to be in shape and not afraid of heights nor exposure to danger. Part of the trail has chains for safety and they are needed. Go early in the morning to avoid crowds and heat. Views are second to none in the Park. However, I have heard they are going to close the trail due to at least one death per year. There were two last year.

I love a challenge as long as life and limb aren’t at risk. Angel’s Landing is a 2.5 mile trail up a 1,400-foot sandstone cliff and is, by far, the most challenging trail in Zion National Park. I was tempted by Angel’s Landing on my first visit to Zion but avoided it after reading about the fatalities on the National Park Service website. Then, on a recent visit, my brother and I gave the trail a shot. We're not daredevils and thought we’d simply turn around if it got too risky. We’re glad we did.

The first couple miles of the trail which took us to Scout Lookout at the 1,000-foot mark was exhilarating, if a bit exhausting. The first mile or so of the trail has a gentle slope and isn’t difficult at all. The views were well worth the effort. The second mile has a steeper slope and more exhausting, especially as we climbed Walter’s Wiggles, a series of 21 steep switchbacks. The trail is wide and safe but the steepness can take a toll. It's doable for anyone in fairly good shape. We stopped a couple times to rest, chug water and soak up the scenery. Scout Lookout is the turnaround point for most hikers who don’t care about pushing to the top. The views of Zion Canyon from Scout Lookout are absolutely stunning.

The last half mile of the hike is the riskiest and where we decided to turn around before reaching the summit. After a quarter mile of narrow ledges, sharp drop-offs and hanging onto support chains embedded in the rock, we decided the trail was too risky and made a U-turn. It was disconcerting though as we witnessed youngsters climb this part of the trail as if it were a walk in the park. Oh well! Maybe we’ll try again next time.
