Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort

The resort is in a great location. We took a trail over to Observation Point - about 3 miles of a trek, which was brilliant.

Great amenities, friendly folk especially our waitress Keala.

We stayed in a cowboy lodge, rustic and quirky.

Two night stay was too short. Would like to return for longer.

We stayed 2 nights in the western wagons at Zion ponderosa ranch. We were worried about the heat during the daytime with it being in the upper 90' s but at night it cooled down for nice sleeping weather. We also worried about only having one small window with no screen but there were no bugs. The only thing that could be changed is to take one of the three beds out and adding a small table. Three beds made it tight.

I dont usually do review but can't help it... Wonderful experience at zion ponderosa. My family had mini reunion and we decided to do tent camping, unfortunately when we arrived there it was raining, Mike the manager graciously offered to us the conference room when he found out that we have kids. Some of our family member just came from PHils. All the staff from front desk to recreation are great, accomodating and helpfull. Thanks to don, courtney and amanda at reacreation. A lot of family activities inside the ranch. Love the ATV and ranger ride, zipline and the pool. Mike the manager thank you ( the best!). For sure will be back.... Highly recommended place to stay for vacation!

Stayed here while on a Trek America tour, actually in 2011 it was brilliant! It was the first time ive stayed in a ranch, the accomodation was unique with the log cabins and bunk beds! I like the feel of the place, there was a number of activities to do such as zipline, quadbikes, games room etc. The swimming pool with slide and jacuzzi were great!

Food was lovely and we even got a packed lunch to take out with us one day on our day trip. If you visit Zion National Park you have to conquer Angels Landing... best experience of my life.

We stayed for 6 days with the kosher expeditin group, we had beautiful trips in the parks around. Our host Joel Weinberger was wonderful, made all efforts to help us to cross accessibility dificulties, and to make our stay enjoyable.
I couldn't join the group on the bus, because it wasn't accessible for my scooter, yes in the USA 2013, A phisicly challenged traveler, cannot climb a bus.
Also in the ranch the was only 1 house without stair (even there was a small stair in the entrance to the house, that is hard for a wheelchair. But a bigger probldem was in the bathroom that a wheelchair couldn't enter without help, the door is narrow and blocks the toilet. We were adviced to take out the door. A phisicly challenged person has the right for privacy.q

We booked a 5 night camping trip. We liked the amenities and activities. The amenities were hot and free showers, dish washing station, lovely pool, two hot tubs, restaurant, clothes washer and dryers (not free, but cheap) and club house with ping pong and pool tables. The activities we did were horse back riding, zip line, ATV, paint-ball, and mini-golf. We bought too many activity vouchers in advance and ended up not using some--which was a waste of money, so buy a few in advance, but wait to see what you like doing before buying more.

What we didn't like was that things were starting to get pretty run down. They're doing what they can to keep it nice, but a high-desert/mountain resort goes through a lot of wear and tear. It's time to start replacing a few things. Everything there is clean for a camping resort...it's about the outdoors, so don't let the word "resort" fool you. It's a campground with resort-like amenities. It's really out of the way, which was perfect for us.

Time of year: We went in late August -- monsoon season. Zion NP had the 16th highest flood on record while we were there. We transferred from our tent to a cabin--and highly recommend the cowboy cabins (not the same as the cowboy wagons, which are really quaint substitutes for a tent). We loved the weather, so didn't feel cheated by the intermittent storms, but if you don't want rain, pick earlier in the summer. However, we choose late August because we knew most kids are back in school, so it was very quiet at the Ponderosa--no partying groups at all. Just a few German families and quiet couples.

I recommend this for a family vacation, reunion, or stopover on a southern Utah trip. And if you get a chance, go towards Kanab and visit the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Stop for lunch at the Thunderbird Restaurant at the Mt. Carmel intersection. Drop by and view the Coral Pink San Dunes along the way. This is a great day trip from the Ponderosa.

We thought we would be just stopping by at this resort for a night along our two week long road trip, but after the experience the first day we decided to stay for a second night. We were staying in a tent on the property, but when we checked in we were escorted to our camp sight by the manager of the resort. He made sure that we had everything that we needed and told us about everything that the resort had to offer us. The recreation center has every activity you can imagine, and obviously the most enticing attraction is Zion National Park just a few short miles down the road. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a mountain escape with great service, a beautiful location, and a fun atmosphere.
