“Always enjoy being at Zion”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

They've updated the rooms since my last visit in 2009. We had a TV, but we never used it. Rooms were clean and the had recycling bins, so it was easy to recycle. Also, they don't sell bottled water in the park, but they do have filling stations where you can fill your own containers with Zion spring water, which tastes good. We were there in November, so we could drive any where in the canyon. We've been there before and taken the shuttle and found it very convenient. Its much easier to cross the street when the shuttles are running. :-)

I've had western view rooms the last two times there and its great to be able to watch the sun slowly illuminate the canyon walls while sitting on your porch. Its late morning before the sun reaches the canyon floor, but you can watch it revealing the western walls of the canyon starting at sunrise.

We like the River Walk as an easy hike. If you go early in the morning, you'll have the trail to yourself so you can really enjoy the scenery. While it was in the 80s in the afternoon, it was only in the 40s in the morning, so we were glad we had our winter coats with us for that hike.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a western view so you can watch the sunlight enter the canyon in the morning.

A typical national park property; comfortable and clean. A bit of a hike between the rooms/cabins and the main lodge with dining facilities, but only about five minutes at most. The setting is incredible and deer frequently wander the lawn.

We try to always stay at National Park lodging when possible.
The Zion Inn was clean and nicely appointed, including wi-fi and
TV. Since we were staying 4 nights having these options were
greatly appreciated.

Zion was one of the most beautiful National Parks with beautiful
and diverse hiking, biking and incredible scenery!

What a treasure!

Room Tip: Inn rooms have TVs, cabins do not but they do have fire places!

We recently visited Zion for four nights and stayed the first two nights in Springdale and the last two nights we treated ourselves to a stay in the Zion Lodge. While it was a treat to be able to stay in the park, I would have to say that it is not worth the price...considering there are plenty of great lodging options just a few minutes outside the park.

For those who have not been to Zion before, during months with a higher percentage of visitors, cars are not allowed to drive in the park, and therefore everyone must take a shuttle throughout the main valley of Zion...this includes those staying in the Lodge, though you are allowed to drive into the park to get to the lodge with a special permit. This makes it just about as convenient to stay in Springdale as it is to stay at the Zion Lodge. There are shuttle stops all throughout Springdale which makes taking the shuttle extremely convenient, so don't worry about that.

Now for the positives and negatives of the lodge...
positive: gorgeous location
convenient to several hiking trails right outside the lodge
quiet setting (no busy street nearby)
updated room

negatives: bathroom had extreme musty smell
many of the rooms are a good distance from the main lodge...not a problem for us, but just a note as it could be inconvenient to others
limited dining options
limited amenities
sub par customer service

All of this being said, I am glad we had the chance to stay in the lodge, but next time we visit the area, we will be staying in Springdale, as the lodging options are higher quality with more amenities and many more convenient dining options. If you have your heart set on staying in the Lodge, definitely do, it is a nice treat, but if you are looking for luxury or top notch service, stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: The cabins have been recently updated and they are not much more expensive than the rooms, so try to...

Nicely remodeled motel type rooms and cabins available.
Main lodge, a short walk away is beautiful.
Food is very good, we especially liked lunch on the veranda among the canyons.
Plenty to do, hikes and sightseeing in a great national park.
No crowds at end of October, but no ranger programs either.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view ...backside are right up against canyon and many front side look over cab...

We were so lucky to get a room at the Zion Lodge. What a beautiful hotel and location! The main building itself was so charming. Our room was in one of the two-story buildings adjacent to the main lodge. Included was a hot breakfast which was ample for a good start to the day. Flashlights would be helpful as the pathways are dimly lit. Across the lodge are trails to the Upper, Middle and Lower Emerald pools. A short distance away is The Grotto (and the Angels Landing trail) and a short drive away is the Riverside Walk. A must do! We rented shoes, socks, dry pants and a walking stick from the Zion Adventure Co. in Springdale, just outside the park. You can rent it late evening and return it the next day. In all, a *wonderful* place to stay. Wish we had one more day to truly enjoy the park.

This was my second time staying in the cabins, and although they're not perfect, it's a treat to stay in the park yet away from people. The rustic cabins make you think you're staying in another time. Yet with the price (the most expensive place I stayed in my Grand Cirlce tour) and the size of the cabin, there is definitely room for a mini fridge and microwave. I stayed in places in Utah for half the price that had those simple amenities. But I really appreciated the environmental considerations. This was the only place I stayed where it was easy to recycle. My only complaint is that such an old cabin is not sound proofed. I could hear my neighbors under the door joining the cabins, and I could hear even door slam in the parking lot. It's funny how the quieter the location, the more noise you can hear!

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, ask to get the cabins away from the parking lot. I'm not sure wha...
