“Wonderful Canyon Cabins”
Reviewed May 10, 2011

In June 2010 our family did the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion Canyon trip and enjoyed it thoroughly. One of the highlights was our night at Zion Lodge, nestled in Zion Canyon within the park boundaries. Our cabin was so quaint and clean and fit so perfectly in the surroundings. There was a fireplace and a wonderful porch with chairs so we could enjoy the view of the awesome canyon walls around us. We had both dinner and breakfast at the lodge and they were both very good. All the facilities of the park with its hiking trails and beautiful nature were at our disposal without getting in our car. The cabins at the lodge deserve the five star for the surroundings alone and how well they fit in with the natural beauty of the park, and the cleanliness and food quality were an unexpected bonus. Wuld highly recommend staying here.

We stayed for 2 nights in Early April. We weren't too sure what to expect before we arrived, we knew no TV etc (a bonus), we perhaps thought the cabins would be a little better for the price. No matter, we booked for the location and it was great. Up early in the morning, hike, back to the cabin for picnic lunch and refresh then off again. This is the reason to stay here.

We stayed in a Motel Room on the 2nd floor for 4 nights in April. The absolute best thing about the lodge is the location -- it's a short shuttle ride to the hikes in the main part of Zion Park and there are fantastic views from the room. We had a nice balcony to admire the sweeping canyon views. The beds were very comfortable, the rooms were decently clean, and there was a flat screen TV to watch. They even had the curved bar in the shower so that the curtain didn't billow in on us while showering.

The downsides of the room were the overall darkness of the room & lack of seating aside from the beds -- I injured my foot one day and had to rest, so I had to spend the afternoon in a dark, slightly depressing room. The A/C unit on the wall was quite loud. The floors are very "echo-y", so if there were kids running in the hallway we could feel the vibrations. The food in the lodge is passable -- they are best at burgers & fries.

Having stayed in cabins in other national parks, the Zion cabins were a nice surprise.
As others have said, we had a large room with a comfortable bed, desk with chair, small table with two other chairs, ceiling fan, air conditioner, gas fireplace, plus a bathroom with tub/shower, toilet and sink, and a separate vanity with sink area. Definitely renovated.

If you had noisy neighbors, you would hear them in the attached cabins, but ours settled down by 10pm and then dead silence.

The layout/view is not so great. The cabins and motel are built close together. Our porch looked directly at the next unit about 10 feet away and the motel to the side maybe 20 feet away. But this minimizes the impact on the natural area. Easy access to the lobby/restaurant, the shuttle bus, and the Emerald Pools trail.

Breakfast buffet was great. Lunch chicken entree salad good. Dinner of trout and a pasta were OK, but too large. Staff was working hard to please us.

Nice synopsis of your visit to Zion Lodge - thanks for writing and for recognizing the compact yet scenic canyon setting of the lodge and cabins. It's a unique setting where you're rewarded with easy access to this beautiful park.

First, I'll say this - In my experience, Zion Lodge does not have good bugproofing, and you will find some kind of insect or another every time you come back to your room. What's more, a ranger pointed out that it's not unusual for wildlife as large as Ringtails to get into the rooms, although this didn't happen to my cousin and I personally.

So, why do you want to put up with creepy crawlies or the possibility of waking up in the middle of the night to a Ringtail rummaging through your room? Because, quite frankly, you'll remember greeting the morning by stepping outside surrounded by Zion's beautiful cliffs and Freemont Cottonwoods for the rest of your life. You're also primed to hit the Emerald Pools trail or hop on the awesome free shuttle to other Canyon locations immediately, without having to spend time getting in from the gateway community of Springdale instead. This is particularly important for those embarking on longer, more strenuous trails who want to be done before the heat of midday. The Red Rock Grill provides decent breakfasts, as well as dinner for those who don't feel like heading into Springdale in the evening. It had a warm ambiance with pictures of the park on the wall to pump you up for the day's activitie. Don't forget to take advantage of filling your water bottle(s) at the free natural springwater tap at the side of the Castle Dome cafe, the go-to place for light lunches and snacks after you've cleaned up following your morning hike and are taking a break before hitting the trails for the rest of the afternoon.

Head to Springdale for dinner, but wake up at the Lodge inside the park.

We loved staying right in the park. The cabins seemed cozier so we rented one, and stayed for two nights. When they say right in the park - they mean it. You are surrounded by cliffs and are close to the river. The cabin had a porch with a porch swing, the main bedroom, a gas fireplace, large bed, furniture, clean bathroom, and separate sink area. It was a quick walk from the main lodge where we went for breakfast - never dinner, since you have Springdale a quick drive away. I have a feeling this would be a bit small for a family of 4 - but they may offer larger cabins. I would really encourage anyone to stay in one of these - as it was perfect after seeing Zion.
