It's been a year or 2 since we drove through this Eden from Las Vegas to Houston - the scenic drive leading to this park was heavenly (we didn't know what this park is all about the first place, we were just Oh! look one of those National Parks let's check this one out). Parking wasn't that bad and fees are affordable. We didn't go for a hike, so we took the shuttle, and its ride was funtastic - safe, smooth and educational. We're transfixed on what we were seeing all the time. We should've missed a whole lot if not for this shuttle. Can't help thanking my creator for this park each time I hear/read about Utah.

We went to Zion and the Grand Canyon and used the shuttle/bus services at both places, so I feel we have a point of comparison. Zion was much more efficient and quickly whisked people to their stops. OK, "whisked" may not be accurate because they don't travel quickly, but the waits were never long, and they accommodated lots of folks. With one exception, the drivers were friendly and helpful too. I assume there's always the potential for one not-so-pleasant driver, so it doesn't take away from the overall rating. We didn't mind at all not being able to drive in the Park because the shuttle service was so good.

Unfortunately, you must depart your car for a bus ride to the central canyon; the trip is worth the bus ride. If you have accommodation reservations, ask about driving to the central canyon.

I have learned to enjoy the shuttle. When they first started using it, I found it irritating to not be able to drive around. But now, I am getting used to it. The shuttles come often and it really does make it convenient to get anywhere in the park that you need to go. It's also nice that your group can split up and go different directions without leaving anyone stranded in one place. The tour guide tells the passengers about the park and what you are seeing at the time. It is always interesting. Sometimes it is a little hard to understand so you may need to find the best place on the bus to be able to hear it clearly. Make sure you have your belongings in a pack or bag so as not to leave anything on the bus! No separate fee for the bus, just the fee to get into Zion.

Zion National Park is different than most National Parks. Zion is more of a hiking off the beaten path kind of park, as opposed to scenic drives you can do in your own car. This bus ride is a great time to sit back and relax and see the scenery. No traffic jams like Yellowstone, Great Smokey Mts, Grand Canyon, etc. If you are at Zion, then you drove a long time to get here, sit back and relax. Make sure you head out going east through the tunnels. Its the right direction to get you to Bryce Canyon. Only downside to Zion is the parking at the entrance/visitors center. There is just not enough parking.
