“gorgeous hike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

Went in october and the weater was perfect. I would suggest renting the water shoes, walking pole and socks from zion adventure company prior to the hike (20 bucks a person). Yes there are people walking barefoot and those with tevas, but I wouldnt recommend this. The rocks can be shart and are slippery. The hike is marked as strenuous, but it is a flat river bed, so I think it was more of a moderate intensity. We hiked from the bottom up, so you can go as far up the river as you want and turn around at any time. During this time of year, the river is not deep, and the water only went up to about mid thigh on me (im 5'4"). You are in the water about half of the time, and while the water was slightly cook, I felt fine without the waterproof pants. A must when you visit zion

“Outrageous!! Awesome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

Due to time constraints we had to do this hike after it had rained and the water was very high and very muddy---but it was still spectacular! I would love to do it again in clear water. Definitely grab one of the free walking sticks at the head of the Narrows, you'll need it. Wish we could have walked further before turning around but the water was waist high and we were exhausted after a mile or so

“absolutely beautiful”

We had a great time. What a beautiful place. Rented the shoes and dry pants from local sports shop. But I think an old pair of runners and quick dry shorts would have been good enough.

“Beautiful & unique hike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2012

We had to choose between this hike and Angel's Landing due to time constraints and we were so glad we chose this hike! It was so beautiful hiking in the canyon, looking up at the red rock walls. We had regular trekking poles, and were glad we had 2 poles instead of just a single walking stick. My husband wore his keen sandles (toe protection) and I had on light weight running shoes. They were just fine. Because you are in the canyon, there is little direct sun so it can be cool. I wore a light weight fleece + shorts and it was just right. It was too cool to just wear a s/s shirt. Amazing since it was 94 degrees that day. We waited until a little later in the morning to start the hike (11:30) and hiked in about 2 miles. It takes much longer to hike since you are moving in and out of the river. At this time of year the water was not very high, but we did reach a point where people coming back told us to go further you would need to go in up to your chest. The rest of the hike the water was rarely above our knees so it was quite manageable. We packed a lunch and there are various places along the trail to sit along the banks of the river and just "soak in" the beauty. Not to be missed!
