We have been here many times, always enjoy the 26 mile scenic loop it has fantastic scenery and an abundance of wild life. We were truly surprised by a huge elk herd we saw the other night. We had never seen them up close before, always very far in the distance, but this time they were crossing the road right in front of us, didn't spook and run away while we sat and enjoyed watching them. We love going through the park at sunrise and sunset that is the best time to get truly good pictures and see more wild life, although there is always an abundance of bison sometimes the wild horses are only seen close by in the early morning or evening. On this day we arrived in the late afternoon and did the loop before setting up camp. We saw many elk, deer, antelope, bison, horses, and too many prairie dogs, they seem to be everywhere in the South Unit, these days. The RV campground was completely full! Unfortunately they don't seem to monitor the RV camping area very well as there were many camp sites with tents only in the RV campground when there was plenty of room in the tent only campground area. It's unfortunate when people have no place to park their RVs due to campers with tents only in the few RV sites.
