We stayed the weekend at Skyland Lodge and our view of the Shenandoah Valley was magnificent! Our room was very clean and comfortable and the staff was expremely friendly!

We have camped at National Parks throughout the US and stayed at nicer hotels. I was not expecting a four star hotel at SNP and was more than happy to have such an incredible view from my balcony and enjoy my morning coffee while listening to a symphony of birdsong. That made up for a slightly less than stellar night's sleep. We probably could have gotten a better mattress in town, but it was a treat to be in the Park, fun to have meals at the lodge and hiking available right out our back door.

We had an enjoyable experience at Skyland Resort in the Shenandoah National Park. The staff is friendly, the cabins are simple and very clean, and the views are spectacular! I would recommend this place to anyone. There are lots of activities including: hiking, guided nature walks, horseback riding, and a cool list of ongoing events to take part in. Any family with all ages and walks of life would enjoy themselves here.

This is a rustic but sweet peice of heaven. If you like hiking and some nice amenities this would be a place to go. I recommend an air conditioned room because it was hot. The food was good and the staff was very nice. The room was clean and the grounds were simple but lovely. It was pleasant surprise for us.

This is a must see with children. There are lots of easy hikes and activities to enrich your children s life's. The rooms are rustic and in need up updating but you'll be too tired after a long day of hiking to care.. There are several opportunities for meals and light fare on the mountain, some of which is too expensive but you can work around that. Bring drinks and snacks with you. Do spend several days or a week, it's a wonderful opportunity for family time.

Many of the rooms and cabins do not have "a view" . We learned this the hard way. The front desk staff was very helpful and we found a room with a great view - #187 in the Hazeltop building. Even though this building looks out over the valley below, beware that not all rooms are created equally. They let small trees and shrubs grow up in front of the balconies and many of the beautiful views that could be are blocked. The Winchester building next door appears to have no blocked views and a great location. These two buildings are set apart from areas that are more congested and appear to be desirable if you don't have children or dogs with you. Also, within walking distance to the Bushytop trail, the amphitheatre and the stables. These rooms are not air-conditioned but do have ceiling fans. If you need A/C, be sure to ask as only a few rooms have it. Some don't even have a fan.
The food was mediocre at best and we were somewhat disappointed to not get to expereince any real southern foods. We ended up eating in the bar most nights - there is a bar menu that is not teriffic but at least cheaper than the bland and poorly cooked food in the main dining room. However, the blackberry ice cream pie is worth a try!
Overall, we had a great time because the park is so wonderful (lots of bears). We were disappointed that the place appeared to be somewhat "run-down" (peeling paint everywhere, gutters that were full of debris and caused a mess during several rain storms, torn screens, etc.) At the beginning of the season we expected for everything to be clean and in good repair.

Skyland resort is located at highest point of park and it has beautiful mountain views. Rooms are comfortable and functional but a bit pricey and housekeeping is very good. Dining room is walking distance and the food, although a bit pricey, is very good and abundant.
