What a wonderful week, this is a must for anyone who wants to be outdoors. You can go crazy and walk for hundreds of miles, or just stay at one of the National Parks and hike for the day like we did.

We saw Black Bears, Deer and wonderful views of the valley.

Needs to be on everyone's bucket list.

We did this just to say that we did it.. We only went out about a 1/2 mile and worked our way back.. Earlier, we had hiked down to the waterfalls so we were pretty exhausted.. The park is beautiful and I would recommend everyone supports our national parks..

We only hiked a small portion of the trail while hiking the 10-mile Rip Rap Trail at Shenandoah National Park but the portion we hiked was wonderful. Not too steep but enough to break a sweat and the views were great..including the views of the little black bear! Definitely looking forward to hiking more of the trail in the future.

This was a long weekend trip with 19 of us Girl Scouts and we used the Appalachian Trail as the pathway to some of the loops around the park (Stony man, Dark Hollow, Story of the forest trail and Rose River). These are great trails to visit! Some were easy and some were a little harder, but very doable. Great experience! Will have to come back again and do other trails.

The Appalachian Trail through Shenandoah National Park (the Shennies) is a great hike. The terrain is gentle and fairly tame compared to other sections of the Georgia to Maine trail. I made a long weekend trip and used the Appalachian Trail as the pathway to lots of loop hikes around the park (Cedar Run, White Oak Canyon, Dark Hollow, and Rose River). This is great trail to visit at any location because it is truly a special landmark for the great American outdoors!
