“This was on my bucket list”

Rustic "national park" decor and it was comfortable. The bar and Restrauant were very good while not the best meal I ever had it was satisfying for weary travelers. The beds were not very comfortable, but were looking for the "National Park" experience. I was very satisfied and that is off the bucket list.

Big Meadows Lodge was a beautiful place to stay in Shenandoah. They describe themselves as rustic, but the accomodations were clean and cozy. We didn't miss having a TV with all the park's scenery to take up our time--that's why we were there! To stay in a hotel in a town outside the park adds an hour or so each day just to get into the park. It was wonderful to stay just a few minutes from hikes and gorgeous views. I'd stay there again any time we go back.

Room Tip: Upper floors have gabled roofs so the ceilings are lower on the sides. A tall person might not appr...

Outstanding stay at an historic lodge in arguably the most beautiful part of the country. Over 500 mikes of hiking trails, including the Appalachian Trail, in addition to lots of wildlife, waterfalls and gorgeous views. A photographers dream vacation! We are already planning our next visit to Big Meadows.

This is a 'motel style,' cabin-like setting. Depending on the room type you select, you will have different sized rooms with different bed sizes, but overall, the experience is the same. The rooms are historic in that they were built over 80 years ago. There is dark paneling on the walls and ceilings. Indoor / outdoor carpeting of low quality. No TVs, phone or AC. (You won't need them.. I promise) Clean beds, clean showers and bathrooms, fresh linens and decent pillows await in the most spectacular outdoor setting. GO. EXPECT little and be PLEASANTLY surprised by the OUTDOORS all around you. Nature and wildlife are abundant right outside your window! The BIGGEST ADVANTAGE to staying at Big Meadows - LOCATION! You can't beat it. It's not worth a fancy hotel with a long drive from a neighboring town. Take a risk... stay in the heart of the national park!

Room Tip: Choose your room by bed size. All other qualities are the same. The outdoors awaits!!!

I enjoyed my recent stay at Big Meadows Lodge. There is a difference with the new management onboard. The staff is friendly and everything is clean. The meals in the lodge were very good and the tap room was a fun way to end the day. Much better than before. Get your reservation in and enjoy a beautiful view of the valley.

We have stayed in lodges in national parks and know that they are usually very expensive but not the nicest rooms. I made my reservation many months in advance and was told I had a renovated room. May-be so but it definitely had had leaks in the ceiling but luckily it wasn't raining. It was what I would have expected but because it had a fireplace, it smelled awful....The bed was fine; The shower was fine: it had a little deck and was quiet so no complaints there but it just smelled bad and then I smelled bad all day (although I had taken a shower)!. There was something about the towels that smelled too. All that being said, in the lodge itself, the people behind the desk were wonderful, the food in the tavern very good and the breakfast fine. It had wonderful views and you couldn't beat the location.....right in the middle of skyline drive. When I go back which I probably will, I will most likely stay there again but not in a room with a fireplace.

Room Tip: Don;t get one with a fireplace. They smell terrible. Be aware you will walk to the lodge so if you...

A great rustic lodge for people who like hiking , an outstanding location, friendly staff and dog friendly. The hiking trails are well marked and you can take your dog n most of them. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
