Stayed for 2 nights in Big Meadows Lodge. Spent the day walking trails. Beautiful views! Lodge dinner was very good with nice atmosphere. Room was great with a fire place right in the room with everything you needed to build a fire. Would definitely stay again.

Every year we try go to Big Meadow's Lodge during the Fall season to commune with nature; hike the beautifully maintained trails; watch the wild life andenjoy the colorful leaves. At night we can sit in the Great room of the lodge and watch the lights of the valley below or read a book in front of a roaring fire place or play a board game. One can spend the evenings in the Tap Room listening to local artists performing the Blue Grass or Dixie music, while sipping cocktails, wine or coffee and enjoying the humor of Debbie- the charming waitress.
The accomodations and dinning facilities maintained by Armarak are just average for the price we pay. However, we believe Armarak can improve on services and can provide menu choices and better prepared food in the dinning room, which is the only restaurant at Big Meadows.
The staff is very friendly, cheerful and can provide for your basic needs.

Room Tip: Rooms in the lodge are tiny and try to avoid the second floor rooms.

The atmosphere is exceptional! LOVE the historical lodges of the national park system and this is no exception. The "Great Room" was great :-) and cozy with a stone fireplace with warm fire as well as internet, rocking chairs, comfortable chairs and large tables. The restaurant was pretty good- not exceptional but ok. I stayed in one of the old rooms or single cabins. There is a fireplace in every room: Awesome! There are things to do here such as guided hikes and nature talks, horseback riding etc.
Just because I love the National Parks, I hate to admit this part but for the sake of honestly...here goes. The negatives about the room:
1) Not only was the room historical so was the mattress...seriously, like the old springs, sway back sqeaky mattresses of old. For the price of the rooms- put in an updated mattress Aramark!
2) The updates are cheap...blinds that do not even fit the windows (think dollar store) and plastic shower stall with paint splashes in the bathroom.
3) The carpet was stained with debris felt in stocking feet.
4) The fireplace does come with wood! However, one must get matches and newspaper from the front desk along with fire starters. At lease provide kindling, fire starters, or paper in the rooms.
With that being said, its sort of like upgraded camping. Though Aramark charges way too much for such.
The only thing that makes it ok is that it goes towards a national treasure...I hope.

We stayed here one night while travelling up the Blue Ridge Parkway through Skyline Drive. The Lodge was very nice. Good room. The staff was very well informed and very friendly. Be sure to visit the Tap Room downstairs. Good food and friendly staff. Views at Blacktop (a quick hike on the grounds) are awesome!!!
Would definately stay here again!!!

Room Tip: We stayed around back on lower level. Had deer right outside our door!!!

Big Meadows Lodge is a place for those seeking a restful and fun experience. The traditional rooms take you back to a day when solid wood paneling was king and comforting. Although the room was a bit smaller than other buildings where we have stayed before at SNP, the convenience of being within 50 feet of the main lodge was a great benefit, especially since the weather was cold and windy. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. If you dine there try the Fried Chicken....it's the best. We had such a great time we reserved a few days over Thanksgiving. The only downfall is that Big Meadows will be closed so we'll have to stay at Skyland.

Room Tip: Request a front deck or 2nd floor room to get a great view of the mountains and valley.

We stumbled upon Big Meadows Lodge on our way back to Ontario after storing our sail boat in Deltaville VA. for the summer. We decided to take the scenic route home and were delighted with the parkway. They were fully booked on this occasion but decided to make reservations for the following year. Needless to say we have made this a favourite stop over ever since. Well worth the visit; cosy accomodations, great restaurant at, friendly efficient staff, and more than reasonable prices.

Room Tip: We stay in one of the cabins, cosy, fireplace, comfortable bed, deer walking through the grounds, ch...

First stay at Big Meadows. Planned a picnic and day trip to SNP, but brought a change of clothes and a kit bag just in case. Asked the Ranger at the entrance about availabilities (on Friday of the holiday weekend). Usually stay at Skyland (since 1978), but they were booked solid, we checked at Big Meadows Lodge. Three cancellations, so we asked for the room with the best view. Room 5 overlooked the valley - we got it. Room a bit smaller than the usuals at Skyland, with two twin beds, no TV - but you don't go to Shenandoah National Park to watch TV. Irish singer in the taproom, decent. Dinners were much the same as Skyland, as they have been for the last umpteen years, simple and good, as was breakfast. The wife got her usual brook trout, I had pork, and we shared a blackberry cobbler. Excellent as usual. We still keep hoping that they will resurrect the Mountain Berry Pie lady. Staff in restaurant and at front desk were friendly and helpful. Expensive trip, but worth it.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 - 6 overlook the Shenandoah Valley (facing NNW), and have a twelve foot deep patio out front...
