We always enjoy driving the Skyline. We have spotted black bear and fox up here. Be sure to look for Hump Back rock trail (a local fav). They do have summer concerts for free at some locations (look on Virginia tourism site). The spring holds beautiful purple trees!

“Beautiful drive and hike”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

We visited during Labor Day weekend 2012 and drove the portion starting in Luray and up to Skyland Resort. We hiked to Dark Hollow Falls and it was a bit challenging, but we took our time and enjoyed the cool water when we reached the bottom. Our group included my two boys who were 9 and 12 years and did the hike with ease. We actually had to tell my 9 year old to slow down because he was blazing up the trail! We drove up in the morning and I am glad that we stopped and took pictures at all the overlooks on the way up, because by the afternoon a fog had set in and you could not see anything! Driving back down was a bit scary because the road is very winding and the fog was dense and patchy. However, I just drove slowly and we all avoided having panic attacks. I definitely plan to go back and hope that we will see some wildlife on our next trip.

“Beautiful Scenic Drive”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Spectacular...We took a leisurely drive and started at Front Royal the northern most entrance of skyline drive in Virginia..The views are breathtaking...there is nothing more exciting than driving around a curve and viewing the Shenandoah Valley..They have many scenic overlooks and we took advantage of most of them. .They also have hiking trails although we did not take advantage of the trails....we saw some deer and spring was starting to bud all around us....If you are in the area I would definitely take this scenic and enjoyable ride...

“Beautiful Drive”
Reviewed February 6, 2013

We took a detour while traveling from Chippokes Plantation to Luray Caverns, and decided to take the less direct route to Luray by driving the skyline drive. The drive was beautiful and really is a don't miss. But make sure your breaks are in good working order! The hills are VERY steep! I have a full review of our drive with pictures over on my blog if you are interested:
