“Not bad, but as mentioned by someone else, better after a hike.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2014

We stopped here after the hike to Mist Falls and back. I got the tri tip sandwich which was good with plenty of meat, but heavy on sauce. not a lot of side options and got the slaw with it. it was not very good. There is indoor seating, similar to a fast food restaurant and some outdoor seating on the deck as well. There is no competition here, so it is what it is. That said, it is food and after a long day and a long way back to Wuksachi where the restaurant would probably be closed, it sufficed.

“Good Snack Bar Food – Great View”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

The Cedar Grove Snack Bar is located on the first floor of the Cedar Grove Lodge and serves light meals and snacks, and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The Cedar Grove Lodge is located in Cedar Grove Village. Cedar Grove is at the end of the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, about 30 miles east of Grant Grove and next to the Sentinel Campground. This is the only restaurant at the eastern end of Kings Canyon. There are no other restaurants nearer than Grants Grove, which is a winding, 1+ hour climb/drive away.

I went with my wife in mid-July to eat lunch before we started hiking. We got there are about 1:45 PM and they stopped serving lunch at about 2:00 PM. We were real happy that we made it before they shut it down (since we had not eaten lunch yet and the only other alternative was snacks from the gift shop). We both had a hamburger and chips and thought they were good (much better than expected – although it is hard to mess up a hamburger).

The snack bar is like a small cafeteria where you order and pay at the counter. The young man running the counter was friendly and helpful. The menu is limited, so you will be repeating your choices if you stay here more than a few days. We sat at one of the outdoor tables and enjoyed great views of the Kings River while eating. We also enjoyed watching Blue Jays playing in the trees and on the deck railings of the restaurant. They had a big storm the night before and lost power for a while and still could not get the credit card machines to work so we had to use cash.

Overall I thought the food was good and was happy they built a snack bar down in the Canyon. We were glad this place was here as we were spending the entire day in Kings Canyon and if this place was not open we would not have eaten much (other than snacks).

“Can't beat the location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

We ate dinner here twice during our stay at Cedar Grove Lodge. (Everything is in one building.) The food is tasty and yes, it is expensive, but consider the remote location. Also, we bought bottles of Ahwahnee beer from the Cedar Grove store. You can't drink it inside the snack bar. We enjoyed it on the deck with a view of the Kings River.

“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

The quality of food at this little snack bar was as good as any good restaurant. We had trout, which was cooked to perfection, a great hamburger, and the omelets, french toast, and pancakes were excellent. Great value for the money. Cedar Grove is at the end of the road. For those of us staying at the lodge, there is no other place to eat. I was quite surprised at how good the food was.

“OK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013

It is only a snack bar so don't expect much. Turkey burger was too peppery but vege burger good; beef burger patty of the frozen variety. Dinner stopped by 7 pm and we barely made it one day after a long hike. Prices seemed high but I guess everything travels a long distance. But you can take your meal out to a picnic table overlooking the river.
