We stayed for two nights in July. We had actually felt quite nervous about our stay given some of the appalling reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. This is not luxury. The room was fairly basic but clean and comfortable with a fridge and coffee maker. No air con but with a window fan at this altitude that was fine. All the staff employees we met were friendly and helpful. I think in the restaurant they have taken note of some of the criticism. The food was not cheap but was fine and the service very friendly. The breakfast was ok. In the first day we went a bit late and arrived after a big group so the buffet was a bit depleted. The next day was better. In the evening you need to book to eat. On our arrival we couldn't get a table until 8.30pm which with a young child is not great. The restaurant is not really big enough. We ordered picnic boxes one day. These were good and plenty to eat.
I think the hotel website oversells the luxury. If you go with slightly lower expectations this place is fine and in a fabulous location.

Thank you so much for such a positive review. We appreciate that you stayed with us and that you referred to some not so great reviews. We have just gone thru a renovation which put us in a bad light to many guests; but its completed now with just a few more drapes to hang and baseboards to be replaced. Thanks again and we hope that someday you will return.

Check into Lodge but leave luggage in vehicle. When you check in they will direct you to drive to your room in one of 3 separate buildings. When you park look for luggage cart to roll your luggage uphill to ramp in the building. Then need to carry your luggage down to first floor. We had superior rooms 201 and 208. They were very spacious. Two queen beds each and separate room with sleeper sofa , flat TV , table & chairs , coffee maker ,mini refrig.
Meals are in Lodge where checked in. Free National Park Shuttle from Hotel to various sights and hiking locations . Runs every 30 minutes . More popular stops shuttle every 15-20 minutes .
Walking/ running paths / trails behind Lodge . Large trees surround the facility. Beautiful setting.
Great location in the heart of the National Park . Shopping for food , beverages , gifts, drive or take shuttle one stop away at Lodgepole Village 2 miles away .
Suggest making reservations for dinner in the Lodge . Beware that that they automatically add 18 % gratuity to bill of 6 or more persons .

Nice surrounding nature, good trails for an evening walk or for longer hikes. Free shuttle to General Sherman and more makes it easy for you. Lots or deer and marmots in the area. The restaurant and the hotel is nothing special, the WiFi is non-existing and it is a bit expensive, but don't hesitate. You will find yourself in the right spot, staying here.

We had a day in Sequoia and stayed here for a night. The room was better than we thought it would be given previous reviews. Wifi was a bit iffy but not expecting to get any so not a problem.
Had read reviews about restaurant food not being great so ordered a burger to be on the safe side. My wife sent hers back and I did TWICE?! (Burnt and tough). Genuinely the worst burger I've eaten by miles!
Good place for a night in Sequoia but you pay for the location (make other plans for dinner though!).

Dear Dan,

I deeply apologize for your unsatisfactory experience at the Peak's. We do strive to always do our best and when we don't, we confront the issue and reassert to our staff, that each entree or each service we provide will either confirm our guests trust in us or destroy it. We do take our faults seriously and will do better in the future. Thank you for letting us know.

Stayed here for 3 nights visiting Sequoia/Kings Canyon. Had it been possible I'd have split the stay between Kings and Sequoia to cut down on the driving but as it was we were pretty lucky to have found availability at the last minute.

The lodge has a fully renovated main building with restaurant and gift shop, and three 3 story buildings with sleeping rooms, parking lot in front. We were in Silliman with a room facing the woods in the back (front ones may have a mountain view but since the windows are small you probably can't see much anyway). Room's very basic, lighting not too good, but fair sized and clean enough - they seem to be in the middle of renovating the buildings or rooms which have signs of wear and tear - the baseboards are missing but the wall surface underneath not smoothed out. Walls are bare, no aircon (some rooms have however), just ceiling fan and twin window fans which work well enough to cool the room at night. Beds and pillows are comfortable, but some bedding quite old, one of the blankets underneath the bed cover has so many holes it's ludicrous to continue using it.

Service is pretty good. We had two bookings so involved a change of rooms on the last day and it was done seamlessly. We checked out in the morning, leaving our luggage in the room, and when we returned in the afternoon we checked into the new room and our luggage was already in place. Had breakfast and dinner at the lodge restaurant which was fine with reasonable prices.

Given the quality of the rooms they are overpriced but you are paying for the location - worth staying in the park for easier access to sights. Wifi is very spotty. You might get it in the morning sometimes, but most of the time it's too slow to bother anyway.

Thank you for staying with us. We appreciate that 4 stars and for the detailed review. We are almost complete with the renovations. The baseboards have all been put in since your visit so I know this will absolutely improve the feel and look of the lodges. We hope that you arrived to your next destination safely and that someday you will return.
