“Lovely”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

Even in September when the meadow is obviously not at it's best is is a lovely 2 mile easy walk. We saw a bear and cub while we were there, making it a highlight.

“Wildlife in Abundance”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

GO HERE!!!!! This was our last day on vacation and I had just said that the trip would be perfect if we could just see some wildlife other than squirrels, chipmunks, and deer. And guess what??? We saw a mother bear and her cub, a huge rattlesnake who warned us with a quiet rattle and a rare white faced woodpecker. This meadow is teaming with wildlife. To see it, go in the morning or late afternoon, because the bears take a nap during the heat of the day. Walk quietly and stay alert! Wear insect repellent, and do not wear perfumes or plant based hair products-the insects love the smell!! This walk is easy and Fantastic!

“Dusk over the meadow....eerily beautiful!”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

We started this relatively easy 'stroll' after visiting Moro Rock. A park shuttle has a drop here if the road here has been closed due to crowds (check ahead or leave cars near the main road car park). The road to Moro Rock was still closed late in the afternoon on our visit. There are also a couple of decent restrooms here but no running water.

It was getting towards dusk and as the sun was lowering it gave the meadowl an eerie mood of dappled light and shade. While Moro Rock was crowded, hiking on this easy loop was deserted by comparison. We saw very few walkers and had most of the trail completely to ourselves with Mother Nature as our guide.

There are flower filled meadows with lush rolling grasses in the shadow of sequoias and old growth forest. Crescent Meadow is stream fed which helps make it one of the most beautiful in the Park. It would be a focal point for wildlife at the right time of day, more deer rather than bears, however we did see a russet coloured juvenile in the forest on the way out of this area.

Several trails intersect with this one if you have the time and the energy. We turned around at Tharp’s Log that is built around a fallen tree and used by Hale Tharp while pasturing his livestock in the meadows.

The trails are solid and well defined however be sure to read any signs so you don’t take the wrong one. The mosquitoes are a problem at dusk so bring some repellent or spray your clothes ahead of the walk. Nonetheless anytime of the day will have these critters buzzing around for a free meal!

We would love to return and do all the intersecting trails, as it is such a picturesque place to be away from the more popular attractions in the Park.

Happy Trails!

“We saw bears!”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

Very beautiful and mostly level hike. We saw bears in the meadow that were so amusing. The baby bear actually stood on hind legs on a log looking for mom in the tall grass. Just a lovely walk

“Bears!”
Reviewed September 13, 2012 via mobile

One of my favourite hikes of our trip. Easy but beautiful hiking with plenty of wildlife from bears to deer and chipmunks. Watching the bears in the meadow was stunning. Tharps Log is an amazing place, what a location to spend isolated summers living in a tree! Tharp must have been one tough guy!
