“Good views of the valley”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

We had stopped there on Monday and it was a cloudy day with some rain in Estes Park and snow along the Trail Ridge Road so we went back two days later and had much better weather and views as there were very little clouds; we did not like the fact that several persons chose to ignore the signs about keeping off certain areas due to the fragile ecosystem and ignored our pointing out the sign that said, "stay off" the little boy was even playing with the stone sign and his mother ignored him and out request that they should not be walking on the alpine tundra. They were foreign but understood English.

“Don't overlook this overlook!”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

The quality of the view from this stop is not apparent from the road, and many folks drive right on by. It's worth a stop to see the forested canyon, the surrounding mountains, the marmots that inhabit this area and seem to be as curious about the tourists as the tourists are about them, and the alpine tundra that surrounds the overlook and its short trails.

A plea from someone who has seen that tundra visibly degraded over the years: Please, please respect the signs saying that visitors must stay on the trails at that overlook, due to the exceptionally fragile nature of the soil. Almost everyone does stay on the trails, but there are frequently a few who seem to think "That doesn't mean me," and their damaging footsteps can last a long time. I have never actually seen it happen, but I've heard that if a Ranger catches someone off-trail at this site, a walloping fine can result.

“Well worth a stop when driving the Trail Ridge Road”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

This overlook is well worth a stop when driving the Trail Ridge Road as the views are spectacular, particularly of the valley. At the time that we visited there were many marmots roaming close to the path.
