If you are in Washington State and on the Olympic Peninsula and have your backpack and tent then I can emphasize enough the beauty of the Enchanted Valley! It is an easy 13 mile hike to one of the most striking spots on the and it is aptly named. Waterfalls cascade from 1000 ft cliffs into a truly enchanted valley. Be prepared for wetness - it is a rain forest after all. But if you go in the summer you are also likely to have sun.
Break it into a three night, four day stay with the 2nd night at Enchanted Valley. Be prepared for bears, elk and lots of beauty.

The giant cedars and 300-foot tall douglas fir are entirely worth a quick side trip into the temperate rain forest. There is a short nature trail just across from a beach access on the south shore.

The lodge here is a little nicer than Crescent, but if you are looking for nice surroundings and views go for Crescent Lake. It has the bonus of being more centrally located also.

My husband is an avid hiker but has been slowed down considerably by two recent heart attacks. He and I were thrilled to find this short (.5 of a mile) trail north of the lake and close to a ranger's station. The trees and foliage were absolutely stunning and there were a few benches throughout the trail. The ranger came by while we were hiking and she was very helpful. This trail is marked handicapped accessible and after seeing how level it was and how much enjoyment my husband got from trying it, I highly recommend it for those with limited physical mobility.

Traveled the south side of the lake. Beautiful lodge. Lovely lake. Great hiking trails. Hiked several. The 'Nature Trail' near the entrance is as good or better than any of them and not strenuous. If you can only do one trail in the Quinault or Hoh area do this one.
