stay at the Quinault Lodge in one of the newer rooms by the Lake - else you might end up in the lodge - the common area smells like urine - but it has a GREAT indoor pool and rec area - this was our favorite stay our entire Washington trip!

Trails lead to some of the world's largest and oldest trees. Douglas fir, spruce and cedar are some of the species found here. This area gets 12 feet (!) of rain annually, so it qualifies as a temperate zone rainforest. A special place indeed!

As another reviewer said, the trails, and rain forest are enjoyable, multiple different trails accodring to your capacity and stamina. But we stayed at the Lake Quinault Lodge, and I am glad my wife arranged for it....out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a beautiful lake, tranquility at its best!!...rooms are small, but comfortable rooms, make sure you have a view of the lake. No TV in the rooms, just quite comfort, forget the crazy city schedule!!!. we ate at the restaurant, which you should make reservations. The food was very good, above what I expected. We would go back in a minute.

A less travelled area I understand, though we did not go to the Hoh rain Forest. Magical walks and not a long drive off the main highway which was key for us.

We hiked the short (.5 mile) Rain Forest Nature Trail Loop and thoroughly enjoyed the prehistoric look and feel of the trail. It's an easy trail to walk and has points of interest where you can read about the rain forest at enjoy it at your own pace. It's a short distance from Route 101 and highly recommended!
