You can go tent camping, RV camping, or stay in a cabin. We have done all 3 often throughout the years. If you are going for the "camping experience" it is definitely "cadillac camping". You have toilets and showers and nice dining. We love the hiking and the soaking. There is also some good fishing around there.

The location is awesome. The staff was great. The beds were old, hard, and lumpy. The hot springs were way overcrowded.

My wife and I had planned to stay Fri, Sat and Sunday night of Memorial day weekend. We checked out Sunday morning because the beds were so terrible... we both woke up with stiff/sore backs from the beds that were in desperate need of replacement. We had a cabin with two queen beds. Both beds had severe body indentations and were terribly hard.

We were able to get into the pools on Fri night, but Sat they were so crowded that we opted not to join the masses of people. They rest the pools at preset times during the day. During dinner, we watched as people crowded into the large and small pool. At 7pm, the staff started removing the ropes from the med pool to bring it back into service... and before all the ropes could be removed, several dozen people jumped out of the large pool and ran to the med pool. What an amazing site! Even at 8:30pm, the pools were so crowded that we opted not to join the crowds. I think that part of the problem is that they sell day passes to the public; so the people staying at the resort are competing with the public for room in the pools.

For $175 a night, I expected a bit more. It all seemed like a great idea, but the actual execution was poor. I doubt we will return.

We booked two nights over Memorial Day weekend at Sol Duc Hot Springs, in one of the non-kitchenette cabins. Prior to our trip, we'd nearly been deterred by some of the scathing reviews we found here, and now that we've been there we feel the need to reassure others.

Good: Nice, simple cabin, and a great night's sleep. Clean, functional, and well cared-for.
Good: The hot springs pools were well-maintained, cleaned three times a day,
Good: Lots of rain (it's a rain forest, for heaven's sakes)
Good: Interesting cultural experience--lots of Russians and Japanese, in particular.
Good; Gorgeous setting, great nearby hiking trails
Good: The "upscale" restaurant (there's also a deli) is pricey, but it has fine food and service.
Good: Hot springs/pool admission included, with towels. No nickling and diming.

Bad: We booked just one week ahead for Memorial Day, and I think we paid the price--$200/night for five people. We'd do it again at that price, but not often.
Bad: In a place as rainy as Sol Duc, you'd like a central meeting room (like Quinault or Rainier, or any of the "classic" lodges); alas, there's just a little bit of bar/cafe space in the central building that serves this purpose.

As for complaints that the place "smells" of sulphur--come on. Really? it's a hot springs.

In spite of the poor reviews decided to visit Sol Duc Hot Spring Resort.

We were NOT sorry! The trip to get there was long. Our cottage was roomy, clean, well supplied with toiletries and towels, the linen on the bed were practically new. There were plenty of pillows and covers.

The Hot Springs Pools were clean and were managed on a continual basis. Hot pool temperatures are up to 104 degrees. The shower and change rooms were clean and serviced every four hours. At poolside towels are provided.

The Lodge is attractive and the personnel was pleasant and helpful. Snacks and bottled/canned drinks are available for purchase. Nature books, Indian artifacts and souvenirs are also available to purchase. I was able to purchase the Seattle newspaper every morning.

There are no reception of any kind, radio, TV, cellphone or Internet.. There are pay phones available at the lodge. If you go there for the nightlife, you are going to the wrong place!

The food in the restaurant is quite good, nicely presented with pleasant service. However, it is pricey.

If one is looking for a getaway place to relax and still have the modern conveniences and enjoy the benefits of hot mineral baths, this is the place to go! Yes, there is a sulfur smell in the air while one sits in the pools. It is expected.

What else can I say? All those negative feed backs are passe. I am glad I did not base my decision to go, or not to go, to Sol Duc Hot Springs on these reviews.

I look forward to visit there again.

We traveled to this destination to get away from it all, and were pleasantly surprised with the resort itself. The lodge and cabins do need improvement, but that's just being nit-picky. We were there to experience the great outdoors and we did! The hiking to Sol Duc Falls was amazing as are all of the other nearby tracks! The staff were delightful and very helpful in directing us where to go and what to see! We'll definitley be back.

I've been to Sol Duc every year for the past 5 years and never have been overly dissappointed. While the food's price/quality ratio is off quite a bit and they haven't ever changed their menu selection, this is not the main reason I visit Sol Duc. I come for the hot springs. Soaking in the pools for hours with a great view of the surrounding mountains is the best to get rid of the city rush quickly. We always go in March, so chances that it snows are big - and there's nothing cozier than laying in the pools while it's snowing on your head.
Overall cleanliness is alright, food is sub-par (except for the included breakfast buffet). No phone reception and no TV, which is just fine with me.

We stayed in a cabin that had no towels, no hot water, ants, and a moldy pillow. The coffee in the room was de-caf only, even if I wanted to make coffee there were no filters, no cream or sugar. The restaraunt was way over priced!!!! The menu was very limited on choices. All in all for how much it costs we were not impressed.
