Lots of trails through the mountains and desert. Spend an hour or the day.
Very serene. Ranger station/gift shop where you check in has all the info you'll need.y

First, let me remind you that this is a high desert (4,400 ft) so it will be cooler than Palm Springs. I was wearing shorts when I left PS and I was cool at the Park.
Very special place, Do the whole loop on the road. There are many different types of scenery along the way. The cactus patches were very nice. By the time you drive there and back from PS and explore a bit, it is a fairly long day but well worth the trip.

For any visiting Palm Springs, Joshua Tree National Park is a great excursion, about an hour's drive away. It's an incredible National Park with amazing rock formations. It's also great for hiking. I highly recommend visiting Skull Rock and the jumbo rocks in the park. You can spend a couple hours driving around or you can spend days in the park. The entrance fee is $15 per car, which is good for a week. Also, while dogs are allowed, you can not take them more than 100 feet from a paved road. This is fine for an overview, but not if you want to hike a bit. It's a good idea to bring a lunch and water because there are not concession stands in the park.

The drive to the yucca Valley and the visit to Joshua tree is well worth the time. Their are exce3llent areas for hikes of all distances, wonderful exhibits and a strogn presence of rangers. For 10 dollars for seniors yoiu casn buy a lifetime pass to visit all national parks . The little town of Joshua Tree is funky with thrift shops and a nice restaurant.

During a recent trip to the Palm Springs area, we took the drive up to Joshua Tree National PArk. Well worth the drive! I had a broken leg so I wasn't able to walk any of the trails, but since the exhibit signs are so well marked and all of them had signs telling the "story"behind the exhibit, I didn't feel like I missed out to much on the hiking. Plus, I know I will definitely be back. My husband was able to enjoy the hikes and take some amazing photos.
