“fun rock climbing”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

The rocks are rough textured so easy to have grip = easy climbing. Boys 7 & 9 covered the whole area, loving every minute. Definitely want to be wearing pants and if you can bring some sort of work glove to protect hands. That rough texture, while great for traction, rough on our computer soft hands.

“short stroll”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

Everyone can visit skull rock since it is on the roadside itself and only needs a light stroll if you want to get close to the rock. It is a must do for all, especially for people who cant do long hikes.

“Right on side of road and small hike”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

The skull rock is right on the side of the road hidden by a couple large boulders and trees. There is also a small 1.5 mile hike that leads you to a camp ground, and then back track on the same trail. There are some large rocks to walk over that are part of the trail.

“Choked with people”
Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

At least during Christmas week during the day this place was choked with people. Yes it is an amazing formation but not very serene. My advice to better experience this National Park is to visit during non peak times if possible and visit sites early before the hordes of tourists arrive.

“Don't skip Jumbo rocks....”
Reviewed November 14, 2012 via mobile

After driving through Hidden Valley on Veterans Day with my husband, I was starting to miss all the Joshua Trees and crazy rock formations...it was starting to look like earth again. We got to Jumbo Rocks and my disappointment turned back to awe. This is probably my #3 must see at Joshua Tree National Park.
