“Crater glow view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014 via mobile

Where else in the world can you sit and have dinner with a view of the glow from Molten lava? We had a fantastic waitress called Lisa who went to great care to describe dishes available, and gave great advice on things to do and places to visit. The food was excellent and the service faultless, including turning the lights out for us to see the volcano glow more effectively.

“Awesome view of Kilauea, but overpriced below average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014 via mobile

My wife and I stopped in to eat after spending a great day in the park. We wanted to eat a nice dinner and watch the caldera glow after sunset. We ordered our food - their stuffed chicken dish - and it was so dry that we couldn't eat it. They made good with a replacement fish entrée, but we expected more for the price. Recommend that you have a drink in their lounge and avoid the restaurant if you come here to watch the glow.

“Much improved over previous visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

The view is well worth the visit but on a previous visit, the service was horrible. This time service was excellent and the food was very good. If you make a reservation, request a table by the window. You can see the red/orange glow from the volcano which is quite spectacular to see. There is also a viewing area outside the lobby (it is located in a hotel) where you can get an unobstructed view and take pictures. The food we had was good-a bit pricey but fine. There are a couple of gift shops in the same building if you need to kill time waiting for a seat. If you want to wait to see the glow and have dinner while waiting, it is pretty good.

“Don't go Late in their Day”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

After visiting the crater for an evening view, we wanted only a small bite to eat. We heard at the visitor center how the view was great and how they turned the lights off on occasion to see the glow. Thought this might be a good way to end a long day. It was within an hour of closing and the server acted as though we were a bother. He scowled when we told him we would only have appetizers and hardly came back by except to bring dishes. The food was tasty, but way overpriced and small sizes (even for appetizers). The only bright spot was a mixed drink my wife had that I regretfully don't recall the name. I was like a cross between a milk shake and a pina colada. This was my experience. Another day or another time, it may be terrific. I would try again, because I realize not every opportunity turns out the best.

“Great spot!”

Sit back in the great room and look out at the smoking crater or simply wander around and pick up some souvenirs at their extremely friendly gift shop.
