“Nice with something for most”
Reviewed December 17, 2013

I enjoyed this shop. This was my second visit and a good place to relax after hiking. They had many gifts in price ranges a little steep for my budget and a few that were perfect. I thing that will depend on the availability of gift items.many were from the local area but definitely not all. Friendly staff. I got some very cute bracelets as gifts and they were so popular that I called the shop and ordered more. They were so helpful and they were shipped immediately. The grounds are beautiful. There is a resident goat that can be a little to friendly so steer clear of him.

“A change of pace”
Reviewed November 30, 2013

This gallery is a change of pace after seeing the volcanoes, hiking, etc. You can stop in and look for free - purchase if you want (and can afford it). It has a wide variety of volcano themed art stretching to representations of the godess Pele.

The building it is in is an earlier iteration of the Volcano House lodge...doesn't seem as luxurious as the current one.

“Do not miss it !”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

A pure delight for the eyes! If you love refinement and creativity, you will find quite a few things you wish you could afford and admire in your home! It was our favourite art gallery in all Hawaii. Great creativity. Many items inspired by volcanoes. We liked the diversity : themes, artists, prices, materials …

“Excellent and interesting idea for a gallery”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

This gallery combines local artists big and small with a penchant for putting Hawaiian themes in various mediums; frequently these include the local koa wood, the ocean, Hawaiian culture, and the volcano. When we visited there were excellent specimens of glass art which alternated between mimicking ocean waves and lava. The entire building reminded you of an old NPS cabin (which it probably was). If you're going over the mountain or visiting the volcano it's a shame if you don't stop here, it’s well worth the visit. I bought a few items here, one (lava art) for an upcoming Valentine’s day gift.

“Art + History”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

Because we are nosey my daughters and I decided to walk beyond the visitor's center at Volcanoes National Park. We found the Volcano Art Center by accident and ended up spending over 30 minutes there. The ceramic, glass, wood. oil, jewelry and textile pieces there are all made by local artists. Many have a volcano theme. They are beautiful and well priced. I got some beautiful worked glass earrings for under $20. There is also a $9000 koa wood rocker so there's something for everybody's price range.

The other highlight of the center is well...the center. It was built in 1877 as part of the original inn and for various reasons (including being too close to an active steam vent...yikes) it was moved to its current location. It boasts a large porch, wood floors and ceilings and teeny hotel rooms that are now used as gallery space. It's fun to look and shop.
