“Haleakala National Park - Haleakalā National Park Roberts Bus tour”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Firstly this tour is available for all those on a 7 day Hawaii Islands cruise with NCL (another mustdo!) Sunrise on this dormant volcano (never say extinct with the way the earth's plates are moving these days as a socalled extinct volcano erupted in New Zealand a month ago!). Dress warmly because the temp in the mornings and evenings is freezing. It might be summer all year round in Hawaii but at the summit of this amazing volcano its like 28F. Sometimes it can be cloudy but when the clouds move you have this amazing view all the way to the Big Island. The volcano crater is so beautiful and there are many native plants growing around the area. Our tour driver was excellent, he had so much knowledge to impart and made the right up from the ship to the crater very interesting. I am so thankful for my friend Jacqui for taking an extra sweater with her that morning or else I would have been very very cold. Another feauture is you can horseback ride up to the high point and around the National Park itself. You can also camp in the park which takes you down to the coast as well.

“This is a must see when in Maui”
Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

This is a must see when in Maui. This is the most amazing sunrise that u can see above the clouds. You have to start early around 3 in the morning so you get a good parking spot at the observation deck. It's cold so bundle up.

“Make sure to go on a clear day”
Reviewed March 2, 2013 via mobile

The road is 22 miles of switchbacks up to the crater. Once at the top you can get some great views of the island as well as the crater itself. Just make sure it is clear when you go there or all you will see is clouds. Also once you get to the top check out the vegetation. There is a silver plant that only grows there and looks very interesting.

“Worth the 430am drive”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Have been to summit Dec 2/10 and Feb 22/13 while visiting Maui, opting for the sunrise. The experience Dec 2/10 was quite unlike the one on Feb 22/13 due to weather and visibility and air temp. Both experiences were entirely unique, and I would come back a third time for sunrise on my next trip to Maui. Dec 2/10 came as couple, Feb 22/13 came with 9 year old daughter. She got to help at the summit at 730am to check wind speed and air temp thanks to one of the guides at the summit. She loved this.

“Unique view from the top”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

This was on of the to do things for us on our trip to Maui recently, and of course as mentioned by many already, the sunset and sunrise is absolutely beautiful. However, having said that, it is weather permitting so be sure to check on weather forecast before making the drive up there. It is around 1-1.5 hours from the bottom of Haleakala, so you will need to add in the time from your accommodation to the bottom of Haleakala to make sure you don't miss out on the sunset/sunrise time. The drive is pretty narrow - so I'm not sure if its worth all that crazy effort of waking up at 2am/3am to drive up (would require extra concentration for someone used to driving on the left side of the road). Throughout the drive there are stops to take photos at almost every level as you ascend. It is definitely not your usual hawaiian weather once you get up there - so I highly recommend thick socks, thick jacket, gloves and even a hot drink!

It is definitely one of a must do whilst you are in Maui, you get beaches on most places but you don't get a 10000 feet drive up (no hiking efforts) to be on top of the clouds, a truly unique view from the top.
