My family recently returned from a camping trip to Balsam Mountain Campground where we anually have a family reunion in September as we love the cool weather after a long hot summer. We camped in the group site surrounded by hummingbirds feeding on the jewel weeds. Many pipestem swallowtail butterflies were also present on these same flowers. We enjoyed identifying the various birds that were migrating through the area. Round bottom Road is a must see either by car or bicycle. We hiked the Balsam Mountain Trail and star gazed after dark where the milky way was clearly visible. We enjoyed the dining at Snappys in Maggie Valley which is just a short easy drive away in the valley. The campsites are well kept and the bathrooms are very clean. Anyone who loves the outdoors and the camping atmosphere will love this very special area.
