“Very informative”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

This visitor center is very nice. There is plenty of information and maps of the park. Some are free and some are for sale. There is also a gift shop and several exhibits about the park. Definitely worth the time to stop and take a look.

“Interesting rest stop.”
Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

Has restrooms, small vending area and some stuffed animals inside as well as maps and educational displays. You can get back country camping permits here as well. That pretty much covers this place.

“A Must-Do in the Smokies”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

We enjoyed our stop at Sugarlands, especially the short hike to Cataract Falls that begins right behind the Visitors' Center. The museum was very interesting; we all enjoyed the animal displays especially. Nice restroom facilities, a multitude of maps and exhibits, and a short film about the park are available. All the information needed for a great stay in the Smoky Mountains is right here.

“Synchronous Firefly Show was Awesome!”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

Our family holds a great debt of appreciation for the staff of the GSMNP for enabling us to see a once-in-a-lifetime synchronous firefly display on June 5, 2013. We were so impressed by the organization, knowledge and warm welcome we received from the National Park Service staff and volunteers on the night of the show. The transportation, staffing and information sheets helped the evening go smoothly in spite of rain showers early on. We cannot say enough good about this experience and the beauty of it. It is a must-see for anyone, especially families with children who can appreciate the wonder of fireflies.

“First timers stop here.”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

This is the place to go for all things GSMNP. If you are a first time visitor to the park this really should be your fist stop. If it is a return trip you already know all the reasons you should stop. The rangers are helpful and knowledgeable and can make you aware of special activities, considerations, or unexpected facility/ trail closures. There are trail guides, guide books, maps, some for free and some for purchase. They make a pre-packaged map/trail/ self guided tour book combo for a few dollars that I highly recommend if you want to make the most of your visit. It includes guides for Clingman's Dome, Cades Cove, Roaring Fork Motor Trail, hikes, waterfalls, ect. We picked it up a few visits ago and have used it every since.
