“Harder trail but short and beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

This trail is not paved. It is rocky and many of the tree roots are exposed over the trail. It is one of the shorter trails but you do get a little workout. The waterfall at the end was great and the kids had fun in the water even though it was cold. Bring a towel and water shoes if you want to go in the water.

“excellent day trip, easy hike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

The trail was beautiful, many roots to watch out for. Wear comfortable shoes! You will cross 4 streams, so getting your feet wet is a possibility. The park page states that you climb 585 feet, it seemed like more.

“Great family hike!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013

This is a great hike off the Roaring Fork Motor trail that is for the whole family. The trail is wide and there are plenty of tree roots on the trail that make for an excellent "stairway". Water shoes were helpful for crossing the 3-4 streams that run through the trail and also nice when walking behind the falls. If it has recently rained or looks like it is going to rain, be sure to wear shoes with a good grip as the trail gets very slippery. Parking tip: Once you pass Rainbow Falls parking and begin to sees parking for Grotto Falls/Trillium Gap - take a space when you see it, otherwise you may end up having to hike uphill a ways in order to get on the trail. Once back to your car, there is a little turnout/parking on the left with a lovely picnic rock on the right to refuel after the hike.

“Super cool”

Trail is very easy and only a mile. The falls were so cool, as in temperate and was nice on a hot summer day.

“Worth the hike - a must see!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

Absolutely LOVED the hike to Grotto Falls. One of the more challenging hikes we encountered but not incredibly difficult - just had many different environments to hike through: Streams, rocks, lots of roots, etc. Mainly uphill. The falls were the most beautiful out of all three that we had visited (Abrams and Laurel were the other two). Loved going behind the falls and taking pictures. We spotted a bear cub on the way back right on the trail! Watched as he dug up a yellow jacket nest on the trail!! Thoroughly enjoyed the hike and the falls. Definitely get there early for parking. We were there by 8:30 a.m. and got the last space.
